Mayhaps I should pick up a copy of the 2005 G & R.

As for the percentages, if anyone knows how to calculate them while incorporating ties, let me know and I'll adjust them.
I would go by what the 2005 G & R book says.

The book is the official publication of the NHL for that information, used by journalists and broadcasters as a media guide....seriously, the book is amazing. I've had the book for a couple months now, and I read something new in it everyday. :hooray2:

I think I can probably scan and upload the page that lists that info to my cpu and send it to you...or you can buy it here:

I include the Seals and Barons with the Sharks because it was the Gunds who owned the Seals when they moved to Cleveland and then merged them with the North Stars, and it was the Gunds who took a handful of North Star players with them to San Jose in 91 and became the Sharks. It only dropped the Sharks one spot in the all-time standings. The Senators of today were founded by a completely different ownership group than the team of the early 20th century. They may play in Ottawa and share the same name, but they are a completely different team.

So I understand the equation properly. Montreal has a total of 6,561 points. That includes the 26 points for LOSING in OT. They've played 5,546 games, times by 2 comes to 11,092. So their winning percentage is calculated by dividing 6,561 by 11,092, which equals 0.592. Right?

If that is the way they do it, so be it, I'll make the changes.

Nope...close though.

Here it is:

Montreal's record, as according to the latest version of the G & R book, the 2005 edition:

Montreal
5546 GP, 2849 Wins, 837 Ties, 26 OTL, 18285 GF, 14786 GA, 6561 Pts. and .590 PCT.

It lists next to it the 1st year the Habs were in the league, 1917-1918.

You know what, really, it would take me like 10-15 minutes to enter the entire standings into a spreadsheet ... no biggie.

I will do it either later tonight(depends on what the girlfriend wants to do, you know how that is) or tommorrow between down time at work.

That way too, I don't break any copyright laws... :haha:

So again, the only discrepancy is the winning percentage, which I calculated to the equation you provided, and it was still wrong?

Seems even the NHL doesn't know what it is doing...besides, the percentages won't change the overall order.

Considering that they never won a Cup; Buffalo looks very surprisingly strong on that list.

That doesn't reall matter. St.Louis has never won a cup and they have made the playoffs year after year....

Gordfish, all I am saying, is that in the book I have, which is supposed to be statisitcal accurate, it's different. And no, the standings you posted do not match exactly, but I couldn't tell you right off hand what is different.... It's the official record and guide book to the NHL, it's 640 pages long and was published by Dan Diamonds and Associates out of Toronto for Canada and Triumph Books out of Chicago for the U.S.

I'm sure I can type up the standings it publishes and have them posted by tommorrow evening.

alright guys, here it is:

I have it in Excel Spreadsheet form still, if anyone wants me to e-mail them a copy of that I can.

I added Stanley Cups wins as an additional column, just for fun. :wavetowel

I can change the format of the chart, the colors, anything you want, let me know if you want one @ gambit84nhl@gmail.com
