Dude, everyone hates the Canucks. Crawford and Tortorella of the Lightning are among the most hated head coaches in the NHL right now. You sort of expect it coming from any of those two. I'd have to say that them and Detroit are the two scummiest teams. They are THUGS.
Anyways, I HAD done research earlier on when you said that Boulerice had a history of violence, but the only thing I could find was what you mentioned: the stick incidentin in the OHL. Now, I like to prove myself wrong and I have tried hard to prove myself wrong for two days, but I still can't find anything that would prove that he IS a violent player. I found no history of any suspensions or charges except for when he played with the Phantoms. For sure that stick fiasco in the OHL was wrong, but I am positive I can find similar incidents with every single player in the NHL. I won't hold it against him because it was his first few years of playing.
Now, I take your word for Downie because I really don't know much about him, and to be honest you sucked the life out of me, and I can do no more research.
I don't doubt for one second that Stevens knows how to work the ice. I just think that he should have more control over his team. Didn't this happen last year with Brasheer? And Stevens was the coach then. I just think he needs to be harder on his team. If one player is getting suspended for 20 games(Downie) why didn't Stevens stick it to his team to be more careful? He knew they were walking eggshells?
However, in all fairness, Brashear is an ass. So, I don't completely hold it against Stevens because I really don't think that anyone could stop Brashear from losing his damn mind.
I'll get back to this shortly, I'm watching a game right now and the World Series starts shortly.
FYI: Brashear played in Washington last year, so you'll have a hard time holding Stevens accountable for Brashear's actions.
This is the event I had in mind when it comes to Boulerice's history:

And there's a history, albeit not a recent one, for Boulerice. From the New York Times archives (July 15, 1998):
A Flyers prospect pleaded not guilty yesterday in Plymouth, Mich., to a charge that he took a baseball swing with his hockey stick and left an opponent unconscious and convulsing.
Jesse Boulerice, a 19-year-old draft choice from New York, was charged last week with assault to do great bodily harm less than murder to Andrew Long of the Guelph Storm during an Ontario Hockey League finals game in April.
The felony carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Quote:
Long suffered broken facial bones, two black eyes and several cuts and lacerations and is out for the entire Memorial Cup tournament.
When 99.9% of players in the NHL go their entire career without swinging a stick at another player, let alone hit another player and get charged with a felony assault, I'd say that's history enough.

Good luck with the game!
Thanks for the correction; my memory was failing me.
And I don't think Stevens is accountable for brashear's actions. Brashear is just a nut-bag/disaster.

Yes, I'd have to admit that's pretty brutal , however I don't think it's enough to say that he has a "history" of violence. I mean, come on!
A coach still needs to control the team! Unless it's someone who is absolutely stark-raving mad (like Brashear, Heatley, etc.)there is no excuse.
Tennis anyone ?Perhaps badminton. Is that the Norfolk Ads you refer too.If so,maybe the next time I hit a possum with my car I can mail it to you to throw in the kettle of grits.
Better splinters in Bowls butt than in his teeth.Lke the onesin Keslers teeth. It's pretty sad how the the 'soccer mommy' mentality hastaken over.I see it at the Giant Center in Hershey.Damm,I really envy those Euro soccer fans. They aren't 'soccer mommies'.
No, the Milwaukee Admirals, the 2004 Calder Cup Champions and 2006 Western Conference Champions.
It is nice to see you keeping your streak of being wrong alive. Don't forget that Virginia is the home of the CIA and the FBI's training center as well as the Cumberland Gap.
Is "soccer mommy" the opposite of the "assault with a deadly weapon hockey" that you profess?
Don't confuse the billion true soccer fans around the world with a few thousand European soccer hooligans who get all of the bad press.
2. Ten NHLers off the top of my head:
Rod Brind'Amour
Matt Cooke
Jaromir Jagr
Pierre Marc Bouchard
Ryan Getzlaf
Mark Recchi
Bryan Allen
Olaf Kolzig
Scott Gomez
Wade Belak
Ten incidents like the Boulerice - Long one, please.
Note: This doesn't mean 3 game suspensions for crosschecking or getting a knee out. For the purposes of setting criteria, let's say it's criminal charges or a 30+ game suspension.
Seriously, I'll give you a week. Since you're so "positive" about this, I'm sure you can come up with a nice list by then.
Okay, I am not completely losing it. I know that Crawford doesn't coach Vancouver anymore.
And I have no idea what you are talking about after your first statement. Could make yourself clear, perhaps?

I listed ten players, off the top of my head, and I figure that if you're so positive about it, you shouldn't have much trouble finding these "similar incidents" for each of those players. In the interest of being precise, I set some criteria for what I would deem to be a "similar" incident.
Also, just for personal interest, I'm curious how you came to the conclusion, Bertuzzi aside, that Vancouver and Detroit are teams of "THUGS."
Everytime I've seen a game from these two teams there is some sort of scandal/dirtyness. These two teams get away with all kinds of crap and they never get caught, which I find, is a bit puzzling. They do rotten things like purposely snow plowing the goalie, pulling jerseys over players' heads, hooking without getting called, goalie interference (one Vancouver player actually used a Flames player to knock down the goalie), and Vancouver is just annoying as hell. I would take Detroit over Vancouver any day!
