Amen!
And if Philly really does want revenge over the Lidros hit, they need to be put somewhere far away from society, because I agree with JKratzer that it was Lindros's fault for skating w/ his damn head down. As for Boulerice, I don't think there's any way else to explain his hit other than, well..."Goonery". I mean, he checked Boulerice in neck!
Downie's hit I think was just mindless. If you ask me, i don't really think he intended hit as hard as he did. Regardless, it was retarded.
What I am saying is that John Stevens needs to get control over his team. This type of stupidity shouldn't be coming from one single team so early in the season.
Although I don't agree with Adsfan about "payback" for the Lindros hit, I think he raises a good point saying that somethng IS wrong if Philly is able to hand out so many whoopings.
Also, I lose respect for management of a team who can basically just throw you away like garbage if you DO make some hits that was result in injury. Especially since it was probably the coaching that caused all of this. What are the chances that two players have already caused two major injuries, and the coaching did not do anything to start that? Either way it starts with the coaching. On one side, maybe the coach encouraged such hits, and on the other side, if it truly just is the players fault, Stevens NEEDS to real that s*#t in!
It's not payback for the Lindros hits...why is anyone even bringing this up? These hits were against the Senators and the Canucks on players who probably never played against Lindros.
It has nothing to do with coaching either. This stuff didn't happen when Stevens was coaching the Phantoms in the AHL. It didn't happen when Stevens won the Calder Cup. Why would this have anything to do with coaching?
Both players have a track record...it's the players' responsibility to follow the rules. Players make those decisions. The coaches shouldn't be held responsible for a guy like Boulerice doing something he's been doing his whole career. It's quite obvious that this was Boulerice being Boulerice, not Stevens telling him to deck someone.
Get over it. If these two players were on another team, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I can understand that, but they were unrelated events, and when was the last time something even closely comparable happened involving a Flyers' player? Completely coincidental that it was two Flyers in a matter of a few weeks. Calling it "more Flyers goonery" makes it sound like this is an ongoing issue with this team. The problem with saying it's Flyers goonery is that Boulerice has been with how many teams and done stuff like this with all of them? Why not call it Boulerice goonery rather than associate it with/blaming the organization for his behavior.
I know. I just thought I should point out that they were lengthy suspensions, and thus warrant attention. To say the entire Flyers team is a bunch of goons is ridiculous, but you had to have seen it coming. And really, I'm not sure why it bothers you so much.

I doesn't bother me that I'm mad about it; it's just inaccurate. It's a generalization and it's far from correct. I just love it when people think that there is a connection between the Flyers' style of play from the 70s to the style of play today because two players were suspended.

How can you say it has nothing to do with the coaching?? I mean, are you saying that it's okay for a coach to let this happen. Two of his players have injured someone enough to warrant suspensions. So early in the season! The coach is supposed to be in control of a team, here. That's what they do. They coach their team to do everything they can to have a strong team, but this guy doesn't seem to have it together. You don't just let your players do that!
You could blame a kid for stealing a candy bar for the very first time. But if he keeps doing it, the parents get blamed for not stopping it. It's their job to control the kid.
And yes, it has happened before. Just last year! Can you say, Brasheer? That guy got suspened and the very day he came back he was already back to trouble. He made major news.
I can't blame it on the players because I can't think of a time when Boulerice has caused major injuries to someone other than this. If you have proof that he has, along with Downie, then prove it, if not then I have to stand by my opinion.
Now, if we were talking about someone like Heatly, I'd agree, but Boulerice?!
And no, it's not just people out to get Philly, if it was another team, we'd be all over them just as much.

Then why wasn't Crawford crucified for Bertuzzi? Why aren't more coaches in hot water when anyone gets suspended?
Boulerice was convicted of assault charges for a stick work incident in juniors I believe. Downie has had a history of suspensions during his junior career. Look into yourself. If you're going to question my statement about the past of these two players and whether it was accurate, prove me wrong. Before disagreeing with me because you aren't aware of their previous incidents, look it up for yourself and see if I'm right rather than saying I'm wrong because you don't know about it and ask me to provide specifics. Go look for yourself.
Stevens is a good coach and doesn't coach his players to hurt others or to break the rules or get suspensions. If he did, I hardly believe he would get a head coaching job in the NHL, let alone in a city where winning is expected and losing is not tolerated. He won the Calder Cup with the Phantoms. I'm sure he's capable of keeping a team under control. Look at their record. They're obviously listening to him and playing as a team.
"Bowls" is going to have splinters in his butt for a few months at least. He is history!
Just more Philly goonery. They have only been that way since about 1974. Maybe the NHL should adopt a rule that lets you replace only 1/2 of your suspended players as a deterant. Philly would be down one dressed player already for about the next 20 games.
Tennis anyone ?Perhaps badminton. Is that the Norfolk Ads you refer too.If so,maybe the next time I hit a possum with my car I can mail it to you to throw in the kettle of grits.
Better splinters in Bowls butt than in his teeth.Lke the onesin Keslers teeth. It's pretty sad how the the 'soccer mommy' mentality hastaken over.I see it at the Giant Center in Hershey.Damm,I really envy those Euro soccer fans. They aren't 'soccer mommies'.

Nope, just the players. I like soccer, but can't stand how players fall over with the light breeze of someone running past them and then roll around like they're experiencing a compound fracture.

Dude, everyone hates the Canucks. Crawford and Tortorella of the Lightning are among the most hated head coaches in the NHL right now. You sort of expect it coming from any of those two. I'd have to say that them and Detroit are the two scummiest teams. They are THUGS.
Anyways, I HAD done research earlier on when you said that Boulerice had a history of violence, but the only thing I could find was what you mentioned: the stick incidentin in the OHL. Now, I like to prove myself wrong and I have tried hard to prove myself wrong for two days, but I still can't find anything that would prove that he IS a violent player. I found no history of any suspensions or charges except for when he played with the Phantoms. For sure that stick fiasco in the OHL was wrong, but I am positive I can find similar incidents with every single player in the NHL. I won't hold it against him because it was his first few years of playing.
Now, I take your word for Downie because I really don't know much about him, and to be honest you sucked the life out of me, and I can do no more research.
I don't doubt for one second that Stevens knows how to work the ice. I just think that he should have more control over his team. Didn't this happen last year with Brasheer? And Stevens was the coach then. I just think he needs to be harder on his team. If one player is getting suspended for 20 games(Downie) why didn't Stevens stick it to his team to be more careful? He knew they were walking eggshells?
However, in all fairness, Brashear is an ass. So, I don't completely hold it against Stevens because I really don't think that anyone could stop Brashear from losing his damn mind.

1. Crawford doesn't coach Vancouver anymore.
2. Ten NHLers off the top of my head:
Rod Brind'Amour
Matt Cooke
Jaromir Jagr
Pierre Marc Bouchard
Ryan Getzlaf
Mark Recchi
Bryan Allen
Olaf Kolzig
Scott Gomez
Wade Belak
Ten incidents like the Boulerice - Long one, please.
Note: This doesn't mean 3 game suspensions for crosschecking or getting a knee out. For the purposes of setting criteria, let's say it's criminal charges or a 30+ game suspension.
Seriously, I'll give you a week. Since you're so "positive" about this, I'm sure you can come up with a nice list by then.
