So far this season I think the Belt should belong to Derek Boogaard. This 6'7" scrapper has 5 regular season bouts this year and gone 4-1. His only loss was to Georges Laraque who caught him with a flurry of shots.
Normally I would go with Georges Laraque as the Champ but he hasn't looked too good in bouts this year except his pounding of Darren McCarty.
Laraque and Boogaard have both fought Raitis Ivanans of LA and Todd Fedoruk of Anaheim with Boogaard dominating both and Laraque taking the edge in both.
Either way these two should be #1 and Top Contender.
Being 6'7" makes him larger than most in the NHL. I give him some extra credit because he isn't out there trying to start fights with the little guys or the stars. Not to say he won't fight a little guy but he won't do the starting of it. Plus he can toss with both hands which puts him ahead of some of the others. I've seen Fedoruk lose too many to put him in the top 5.
I've seen Laraque fight for many years as an Oiler fan. I've felt the past two years that he hasn't answered the bell enough when the other teams were taking runs at their forwards and goalies. Last year for a team with an enforcer Ryan Smyth took too many high sticks.
For others to consider Cam Janssen looked really good last night in the tilt with Belak, Janssen has 8 tilts this year with only the mix up with McGrattan II being considered a loss and if he could've gotten his arm free that one might've been different too. Wade Belak used to be talked about as a top ranked fighter just never lived up to his AHL hype.
Ya Godard dominated Boogard last night, but I'd still like to see Chara vs. Boogard. Other then that, Brashear has come back this year. But the silverback gorilla George Laraque very might be still the champ.
PJ Stock is the former middle weight champion, ever since his departure I haven't really seen anyone worthy. Unless you have some ideas.
Brashear doesn't fight unless the opposing player doesn't know it's coming or they weigh 50-100 pounds less than fat Donald. Cheap shots and talking crap is all he's worth now.
how can you say for this guy to fight someone his own size theres not to many guys his size out there and the Fodoruk and Boogaard fight, Fedoruk pretty much made Boogaard fight, he didnt even want to.
