tapered shafts are used with tapered blades. Tapered blades have a slimmer hosel. A hosel is the part of the blade that goes into the tapered end of the stick. A tapered hosel measures 1.00"x0.50"
A regular shaft uses the standard size hosel, which is a little cheaper than tapered.
What you bought, I believe, is a regular shaft. To make sure you know what you have, measure the shaft dimensions and it should be bigger than 1"x.5". If not, then you have a tapered shaft.
