Default Skate Break-In

New to forum, new to hockey...sorry if this has been asked before but I did a quick search with nothing...

I have been playing for about 2 months, I have a pair of Tacks 692s (fit well at the shop). I skate 2-4 times a week and really enjoy my time on the ice. I have tried most of the break in tricks and skate enough that I would have though they would feel good on my feet...but they hurt!!!

So my question...how much longer should I try to break them in? is 8 weeks enough? should I head back to my LHS (2 hrs. away...lol) to begin a new skate search now that I have some ice time under my belt and may know what I am looking for?

Thanks All!!!

Welcome to the forums!

First off, how exactly do they hurt? More importantly where do they hurt?

thanks!!!

I've had a couple different hurts depending on how I have tried to solve the hurt...that sounds dumb...anyway...here goes...

worst pain in the arches, as soon as I stand on them for any real time. Tried lacing them tighter and kicking my heel back to get them in a different place then I got some numbness in my whole foot...it goes away after a while or at least goes numb enough I don't feel it for a while, but if I have to stand still for any length of time it comes back quick...

Invest in some Superfeet Hockey Insoles! superfeet.com. While they wont solve global warming they should resolve your issues! lol

I second this. It sounds like you are having an arch issue. Replace those old crappy insoles with some quality ones. It makes a very noticeable difference.

thanks y'all

I'll give them a try before resorting to more drastic measures (new skates). I love to skate and play but I dread putting on those skates...well at least until my feet go numb...lol

I know you cannot tell me how they will fit or if they will solve my problem so I won't ask, but a guy on my team bought a pair of XXXX's and they are too big for him. They are the same size as my 692's and he is selling them for $250 would they be worth trying on?

I guess my questions are...he has worn them a few weeks would they break in to my feet properly or are they broken in to his? Is $250 money well spent on these skates used (if they fit well) or should I save it for a potential new pair?

Thanks again!!!

My suggestions would be for you to buy the insoles and see what happens. If they solve your issues, there would be no need to spend another $250. If your skates continue to give you issues, all is not lost as you can put those insoles into any skate you eventually get.

Are the XXXX's worth trying on? Yeah, if thats all you want to do right now. I mean, what could it hurt right? As far the break in, you can always get them baked so they are molded to your foot. So thats not much of an issue.

ok so I got the Superfeet insoles and they helped, but my feet still hurt on the arches and I have to believe they could feel better.

I tried my teammates XXXX and they were too small, same size as my CCMs but they must run smaller. So I'm planning a trip to head out and try on skates...

I would like to get something soon,(with the Superfeet I can at least get through a practice) but when is the best time of the year to buy new skates?

Thanks again for the help!!!
