Question Beginner Skates? Mission? Bauer?

Hi,

I've just got into skating and am a little confused as to which skates to choose!

I've been looking at the Bauer Vapor SE SR Skates and the Mission S200 F-PRO skates. Does anyone know how they compare and or any other recommendations?

Thanks!!

M

It depends on what you are planning to do. If you are going to play some pick-up hockey then you might want to get something a bit stiff, with a bit of protection - not too stiff, however, as they will be too hard for you to flex. I would highly recommend the Mission S300's given the price they can be had for right now. Mission tends to give you more for your $ than the other manufacturers do.

ok here is what you do. Go to your LHS with a price you are willing to spend. Try on skates from different brands within the price range get which ever ones fit your foot the best. That is the best thing to do when buying skates. If you do not have a local hockey shop then i recomend Bauer, but thats just me

yes. and make sure you get someone to help you size them. almost everyone who doesn't know about hockey skates gets them too big.

I agree. The shape of your foot will play a major role in determining the most comfortable boot for you - after that, it is simply a matter of nailing down something in the price range you want. My main beef with Bauers is related to pitch, which is not soemthing you need to worry about too much as a beginner, but the S300 is a high quality boot that is stiif enough for support, yet flexible enough for a lighter, less agressive skater, and it comes with the Pitch 3 holder - a major plus. They fit narrow, though, so if you have a wide hoof you'd better look at CCM or Nike.

hey thanks for all your responses... much appreciated!

I'm going to try some Missions on tomorrow and see how they feel for my feet. I think I have quite narrow feet and have heard that the Missions have a slightly snugger fit then say CCM's.

On the Missions, I was planning on trying on the Mission S200 F-Pro skates... does anyone know how these compare to the more expensive S300 and S400 skates?

Thanks again! ))
