Jay Bouwmeester and Nathan Horton each had a goal for the Panthers, who have won two straight and six of their last seven.
Ed Belfour stopped 30 shots for Florida, which thanks to the hot streak has surged back in the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference and now has 71 points, four behind eighth-seeded Carolina.
It was the first win this season for Florida in seven attempts against Atlanta.
Marian Hossa had a goal and an assist and Keith Tkachuk added a goal for the Thrashers, who had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Kari Lehtonen made 36 saves in the loss for Atlanta, which is in first place in the Southeast Division and third place in the Eastern Conference with 82 points, two points ahead of Tampa Bay.
