Does anyone want to take over running the pick 'em league this year? I won't have time unfortunately. I couldn't find any sites online that did it for you, like they have for football.
Well, nobody's taking over so I might as well. I should have enough time on my hands between classes to update it, but don't expect anymore fancy Photoshop trophies.
I suppose I could start a football pick too, seeing as how "the other site" has done it...

Good man! I'll still do the trophies - that'll just take a change in years
Ok guys, the (real) puck drops in two days, so post yer predictions here. New rules from last season:
One point for each correct guess.
One point for having the most correct guesses on a given night.
One point for correctly guessing the last game of the nights' game-winning goal scorer. *NOTE* You can predict a player scores a game-winning goal even if you predicted the other team to win; for example; Colorado to win but Brendan Morrow to get the game-winning goal.
October 4th
Buffalo @ Carolina Ottawa @ Toronto Dallas @ Colorado; Andrew Brunette
Get your picks in people, if you miss it or screw something up it's your own fault and I'm not sending PMs to remind anyone or clarify anything. Happy picking!

NOTE: Due to the recent bruahaha over the seeding of which games are "first" and "last", I've decided to change the rules once again -- members can now choose any two games and guess the game-winning goal scorer. The timing of the games is no longer a factor. However, you can still only pick two games. Anything more will be ruthlessly ignored.
Yet another new rule: In picking games which have already started, you cannot pick the team that is currently ahead, and you may not pick the game-winning goal scorer out of anyone on the currently winning team who has already scored a goal that has not been "neutralized" by an opposing goal. If the score is tied, you may still chose either team, as well as anyone to score the GWG.
For example:
Toronto leads Philadelphia 1-0, with Colaiacovo having scored the first goal (this one's for you, fiesty). You cannot choose Toronto to win, and you cannot choose Colaiacovo as the GWG scorer, but you can pick any other player on both rosters to score a GWG.
Colorado leads Detroit 2-1. The order of goals scored is Sakic -- Datsyuk -- Svatos. You cannot pick Colorado, but as Sakic and Datsyuk's goals have cancelled each other out for the GWG, you can pick either of them to score the GWG. As Svatos holds the current GWG, you cannot pick him to score the game-winning goal.
St. Louis and Chicago are tied 1-1, from goals by Vrbata and Weight. You may pick either team, and anyone on either team's roster, including Vrbata and Weight.
I realize this is a fairly complicated system, so let's not make it harder than it is already. If a team is down by more than two goals, I reccomend not picking the game at all.
Announcement on playoffs
Currently we have 10 players on our roster. When the season ends, the top four point totalists will automatically advance to the playoffs. Due to late starts and missed picks, some members are far behind. Thus I'm giving four wild-card slots that players can win by picking WJHC games. Seeding will be based on points and %, with the highest point-scorer (currently and most likely to remain halifas) up against the lowest % total, the second highest against the second lowest, etc. When the regular season ends our playoff bracket will have four seeds, the point scorers vrs the % getters, with the point scorers getting the advantage of first picking.
If a player with a top four % is also top four in points, the wild-card goes to the next-highest % picker. However, there will be a reward if a person has a top 4 percentage and is top 4 in points; that person will earn the right of winning tiebreakers; that is to say in the case of a tie (explained below), s/he will automatically advance to the next round.
How the playoffs will work
In each of the first four matchups, the point scorer chooses first. S/he chooses:
A) Which series to pick
B) How many games the series will go to
C) The series-winning goal scorer
The % wild-card winner chooses next, picking the same criteria. Obviously, s/he cannot choose the same number of games and the player must be on the opposite team. The person who guesses the number of games exactly or closest to it advances to the next round. If there is an equal number difference (ie one player chooses 7 games, the other chooses 5, and the actual number is 6) the tie-breaker will be the player. Whoever choses the correct scorer advances, and if neither correctly pick the player, then the winner will be based on which team the chosen player was on.
Example:
Player Y was among the top 4 point scorers. Player Y picks the NYR-Atlanta series.
Player Y chooses 7 games, Kovalchuk
Player Z chooses 5 games, Shannahan
NYR-Atlanta goes to 6 games, Hossa scoring the series-winner. Player Y chose the player from the winning team and advances.
In the interest of diversity, the highest-scoring player picks their series first, second place picks next, third place next, fourth place last. Nobody can choose the same series.
Obviously, the player who picks first will have a large advantage in earlier rounds, being able to pick which series and, by default, the team to win. Such is the reward for accumulating lots of points. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Eight players will become four, then two, then one, picking up to the Conference Finals, until we have our champion who gets a cool sig pic. If you guys want to pick into the SCF then throw a suggestion towards how we could structure it. I've been thinking maybe whoever picks at a higher % than our group rate (currently holding around 55%) or whoever choses a SCF game-winner or series-winner gets their own victory signature as well. I'm open to other ideas.
