Ever wonder how much area Central Scouting actually covers in a month?
Well, we did, and, for this edition of Inside Central Scouting, we added up the flights, car trips, hotel stays, airport visits, arena visits, teams seen, game reports filed and towns of all shapes and sizes visited. Here's what we discovered:
* 28 days
* 379 games
* 758 teams
* 32 flights
* 214 arenas
* 43 hotels
* 1,083 game-performance reports
* 385 checklists adjustments
In the 28 days that make up February, Central Scouting’s North American and European scouts combined to see 379 hockey games in 214 locations, and in the process file 1,083 game-performance reports, while also adjusting 385 ranked players' checklists.
The numbers also tell us that the average CS full-time scout traveled to and attended a game in all but six days out of the month and those "off" days were likely the result of travel or due simply to the fact there were no games in the area to be seen that day.
The difference between the arena locations and the total games is simply a result of multiple scouts at some games, along with multiple viewings from scouts covering a European tournament, or a high school showcase in the same arena location.
To give these 379 total games some global perspective, if you watched (or played in) a CHL, Junior A or B league game, European league game, U.S high school or college game in any of the following locations this month, there is a decent chance that we saw what you did -- and for any of you that were actually on the ice, well, we literally saw what you did.
In the Czech Republic, several games were witnessed in the Under-18 Five Nation Tournament in Most, along with league games in Piestany, Liberec, Pardubice, Trencin, Litvinov, Usti, Slavia and Budejovice.
