The Edmonton Oilers will pick first overall in the NHL draft for a second straight year.
The New Jersey Devils won the draft lottery Tuesday but teams aren't allowed to move up more than four spots, leaving Edmonton with the first overall pick.
The Devils will pick fourth, the New York Islanders fifth and the Ottawa Senators were bumped down to the sixth spot, with Colorado and Florida falling in order at second and third, respectively.
After finishing its season in 30th place, Edmonton held the highest odds of getting the No. 1 pick at 48.2 per cent.
"Winning this first overall pick is an important moment for the organization and it's an integral part of the process moving forward," said Oilers GM Steve Tambellini.
Do the Oilers take the big Swede?
Do they go for the slick/sweet offensive Nugent-Hopkins?
Do they surprise lots of people and go for Couturier or Landeskog?
I think the Oilers go with Larsson. He is currently number 3 on my board but I feel that he is the best fit for the Oilers at this point in time. They already have enough young offensive prospects, I think it's time to get a solid shut down D-man who already has experience playing big minutes in big games.
If RNH gets Hall on the wing! Woo baby will the line click. But then again the Oilers will be looking to buff up the team,so best player they assume. Which could be anyone, but I'm down to two options: Larsson and RNH.
I don't remember which analyst it was, but I remember reading a mock draft last week that had Landeskog dropping to the Islanders at #5, and Larsson to the Sens at #6. He had the Devils taking Murphy at #4, which doesn't make sense to me. Yes they need offensive skill on defense, but I would think they'd take the more well rounded defenseman Larsson. And Landeskog's game would fit perfectly with the Devils philosophy. They almost always draft the best player available, so I don't see how they'd pass on both Landeskog and Larsson. I don't see either being there at #4 anyway.

And they win the lottery again by having Larsson drop to them at #4. Absolutely thrilled to have him. He should fit right in with all the other Swedes (Josefson, Tedenby, Urbom, Tallinder...they're becoming the Red Wings!), and with coaches Stevens and Robinson teaching him the finer points of playing defense in the NHL, I have a really really good feeling about him.
Larsson, Merrill, Taormina, Urbom, Gelinas...I like the future of the Devils defense.
Definitely not, top end defense-men transfer easier and then Top quality forwards. I will be surprized when Webber is just not moved before long.
