As most of us expected the Oilers won the draft lottery and will have the first pick in the 2010 NHL draft. Now all year most people have been saying Taylor Hall should go first (#1 on my draft board), but in the last central scouting report this year Tyler Seguin (#2 on my draft board) has taken the number one spot. So I ask you, who would you take if you were the Oilers GM. Hall or Seguin?
Personally I'd take Taylor Hall, Just feel he's an all around better player although the Oilers need a new Center i believe they'll take Seguin and Hall will go to Boston.
I'd take Seguin. His hockey sense is absolutely unbelievable, and I think his ceiling is hired. Granted, the Oilers probably want someone that's NHL-ready now, so they'll take Hall.
I say Hall. He is a great player (same with Seguin) but put up equal pts in less games than Seguin, and played on Canada for the Juniors along with Eberle.
Hall's also a full development year ahead of Seguin. Hall's development curve has been steady, and is the safer pick. Seguin's development curve has been insane, and if he keeps following it, he'll likely be more productive than Hall.
Of course, for a team that needs a franchise player like the Oilers, they'll go with Hall. Given his performance at the World Juniors, he's much more marketable. Most casual hockey fans (read: not us) don't even know who Seguin is.
This is practically the same thing that happened last year with Tavares and Duchene.
I'm more interested in the rumors that Edmonton is trying to get another top 10 pick than who goes 1st overall. If they do get another pick, they'll likely try to get a defensemen like Gudbranson, Gormley, Pysyk or Forbort. Hemsky would have to be involved, just because I don't see anything else that has comparable value to a top 10 pick that they would be willing to move.
The problem is that Boston can't take back significant salary, so the negotiations for that pick would probably start with one of the Oilers current blue-chip prospects. Chiarelli's also said that he's holding onto the pick, unless he can move up. He's not one of the GMs who say one thing but turn around and do another, and he's said the same thing the entire season, so I'll believe him.
As a Bruins fan, I really hope that we get Hall. His favorite player is Bobby Orr, and he is the goal scoring machine that we really need. We have enough play making centers (Savard, Krejci, Bergeron are the established ones and we got more in the system), and we just need that sniper. Hall is that sniper. I'd still be happy with Seguin, since he is a great all around forward; however, someone would definitely have to be converted to to winger.

Though the Oilers could prove me wrong, I have a feeling Tyler Seguin will be wearing a big "B" on his chest in a week's time.
