Default Goaltending situation

Yet another rumor in Leafland is that they are hanging their hopes on a European prospect and looking to trade Toskola. Considering his performance last year it would not be a bad idea to free up cap space.

Jonas Gustavsson is the prospect, most likely, in which case, he's an Unrestricted Free Agent and not draft eligible. Last I had heard it was going to be Gustavsson (if he signs) splitting time with Toskala since he's still entirely unproven. Cap space is good and all, but throwing a European rookie in as a goaltender without any North American experience is probably a bad idea.

In terms of goaltenders available in the entry draft, I believe that Mikko Koskinen from Finland is one of the top ranked European goaltenders, but he's by far raw talent with good size and needs a lot of polishing.

I argee about Koskenin being largely a raw talent. I like what I have seen form him, going undrafted twice now, but in the last three seasons he has not only proven his critics wrong but excelled in situations where he was not suppose to. I think the interesting thing about this goalie prospect when compared to others is though he needs some time to develop of course, he has professional experince and has excelled in professional hockey already as a bonifide started, which would mean a team like Philladelpha or Ottawa who are looking for a #1 AHL guy if their current #1 guys move up, they may take a 2nd round risk on Koskenin and have him move over already. He has express an interest in coming over seas. He is one of the more interesting 2nd-3rd rounder out in the draft right now, even though he is only ranked 2nd for euro goalie prospects.
