Hi Everyone,

I would like ur opinion on how Karl Alzner compares to the top defenders in the upcoming draft: Doughty, Schenn, Pietrangelo, Boghosian, Myers, Sbisa, Teubert etc (comparison in terms of ability/potential, not playing style)

If he was chosen in 2008, where would he fit in respect to the abovementioned defenders?

From what I hear in the last draft Alzner was pretty much ready to make the jump into the NHL this last season, but Washington had decided to let him work in the CHL a little longer. But in the CHL this year he was apparently immaculate, one of the best players. Read on hockey futures he is a projected #1 defensive pairing, and from what I have seen of him, very limited of course, I could see him becoming an offensive/physical presences, like McCabe per lockout.

If I were to throw him in to the draft this year I would put him in first but I think an argument can be made for Doughty as well.

This years draft is pretty deep for defenseman. I would slide Alzner somewere in between Doughty, Bogoisan, Pietrangelo and Schenn. I really like those 4 defensive prospects and I think all of them could turn out to be better than Alzner.

It depends on what kind of defensemen you want. If you want a puck moving, good skater, you take Doughty, Bogosian whereas I see Schenn and Teubert as a defensive defensemen. I think Alzner has Schenns build, but has more offensive awareness.
