Default Why Can,t Steve Mason Make Columbus Bluejackets

I think Mason should be on the bench in Columbus, Mason is NHL calber for sure!

It's not a question of is he capable of being an NHL backup. It's about him finishing his junior career and getting playing time. He will be playing against the CHL's best in the Memorial Cup.

Regardless I think he is bound to learn the Pro game in the American Hockey League before he plays full time with the Blue Jackets. There is no shame in that. Many of today's NHL goaltenders served time in the AHL

Why be on the bench where he won't play as opposed to the OHL where he will be the starter.

Mason does have the ability, but Columbus already has star goaltender Leclaire, and back up goalie Norrena. No room to put him in :/

Goaltenders are rarely ready before the age of 23-25.

Good ones can perform well for a short period (Theodore, Raycroft, Carey Price, etc) but typically break down and get shelled.

See Prices' recent performance in the AHL to verify what can happen when a goalie gets his confidence broken. He's been awful.

Even if mason was older and more ready to make the jump, it would be pointless because Leclaire (who is leading the league in shutouts will play ll the games and Mason won't get any experiance
