Everett Silvertips center Zach Hamill had never been to Boston until this past weekend.
“I had a good time. The Bruins treated us very professionally, and they even picked us up in a Hummer limousine which was pretty cool,” he told hockeyjournal.com.
Hamill, ranked No. 9 by CSS, spent the weekend with fellow draft eligible prospects Thomas Hickey and Angelo Esposito. The trio were invited to Boston for second interviews after the combine in Toronto earlier this month. The Bruins are trying to narrow down their choices for the No. 8 pick at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft June 22 in Columbus.
Hamill and Hickey roomed together, which worked out well since they’ve been friendly for several years. The three youngsters toured the city (Fenway Park being the first attraction that was mentioned), and got a sneak peak at the B’s facilities.
“The three of us hung out together most of the weekend. We ate all our meals together. It was the first time I had met Angelo; he’s a good guy,” said Hamill.
Then, there was the physical testing, which consisted of sit-ups, bench press, pull-ups, flexibility tests and a shuttle run. Each player also had a short one-on-one meeting with Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli – which was a little more laid back than the combine interview.
