Default Current Situation

With Horc out for the year, it seems pretty clear we've made the decision that the season is a wash. Also, didnt we lose our draft pick by picking up Penner as well? So we wont be getting a pick in the first round this year unless Im mistaken.

How would you guys go about fixing this team?

1, I'd trade Rollie for whatever I could get, as long as Im not taking another bad contract back in return, I wouldnt care if we were getting the worst set of prospects in the league with no chance of making it big. He needs to go. In his mind, and the coaching staff mind, hes not a backup. With Dwayne gone, Garon can be solidified as our #1. Hes our future in the net right now, lets move forward and get rid of Roloson.

I would love a big time scorer, I mean, whens the last time we've had one? I would love to say lets make a blockbuster for a big name player, but I just dont see it happening without having to gut the team. Our best bet right now I'd say is Hossa. I think hes the only big name scorer we could possibly pick up.

So what are you're thoughts? How do we improve from here?

Ya I cant' see the Oilers picking up Hossa without having the farm system bleed dry. Too much cost for little return really.

Yea. I dont see it being worth it. Obviously Gagner and Cogs are untouchable for good reason. We have no upcoming picks, so thats also out for tradeable commodities.

I think Hossa would be the easiest to net, but I also agree he would cost us too much. I was banging my head against the wall when we signed Souray to that contract. Why not keep the cap room and try to sign a top liner scorer? I guess they may have figured Penner would be that guy, be hes obviously shown hes not there yet.

Other than the development of our young core, the future isnt looking too bright for the Oil.

Here's my deal - send Rolison to Ottawa (they need a new back up); Emery goes to LA (as per the TSN rumour); we get Handzus from LA.

Doubt Ottawa would do that deal. But if they would, as long as Handzus doesnt have a terrible long term deal, I'd be all for it.

I wouldnt expect much or anything from Handzus, but if he came off the books sooner than Rolison, great.

Well they were bouncing around a deal Ray Emery for Frolov previously. With Emery being late for practice and losing the starting job to Gerber I can't see Ottawa wanting a high priced, back up, troublemaker in their room.

What's this "we"? You have worms?
Sounds like you are obviously a fairweather fan that likes to jump on and off the bandwagon. Don't hurt yourself.

There's still more hockey to play and getting into the top 8 isn't entirely out of reach. Certainly, the Oil have their work cut out for themselves, but the fat lady ain't singin' yet.

Well the Tarnstrom salary dump doesn't help the impression that this team is actively trying to change things for the better and reach post season play.

Souray is gone for at least 6 weeks with his latest shoulder surgery, Horcoff with his surgery is gone for the year. Tough road.

^ This should be voted for mis-quote of the year. GlenX was a FANTASTIC addition to the club, and once again, kudos to K-Lowe and his savvy managerial skills.
I'm
disgusted by the fair-weather Oil "fans" on this site and how they had counted out the Oil back in February. I hope your ankles heal during the off-season.

Glencross played great on that 4th line that's for sure but honestly once Souray was finished for the year don't you think we could've used Tarnstrom more than a 4th line winger with 13 points?

Honestly on a team that had 2 players reach 50 points and one of those was on IR for most of the second half there really wasn't a bright future back in February. In fact if you're able to blast 2 month old comments where are yours on these boards?

This team survived injuries (5th most man games lost this year), managed to put together a fantastic OT and shoot out record and you call his managerial skills savvy? If #14 had gotten his way the young guns out there would spent the year developing in the "A". However when you lose Souray, Horcoff, Pisani, Torres, Moreau, Sanderson it opened up the spots for Nilsson, Glencross, Grebeshkov. Sortini played twice as many games as he did last year thanks to those injury spots.

So which move was #4's best? Losing Thoreson on waivers, being forced to bring up the youngsters or trading a top 4 defenseman for a fourth liner?
