Also, the Oilers don't have a high point-getter right now. Last year the Oilers didn't score much, so they hired Craig Simpson. I guess he helped quite a bit. Thoughts?
that is a bit of a shock to me....didn't think the Oilers scored much...but at least they are...they are like Vancouver right now...spreading the goals around to all the lines...that's always good for secondary scoring...Edmonton is offically my 2nd favorite team 8) and not just because they score a lot...
Goal scoring seems to be spread around (which is a good thing). However, the Oiler PP is horrible. Goals are fine, but ya gotta win the games.
I agree that the Oilers PP needs major improvement, but a team's chances of success are tied more to the quality of their even-strength play than their power play.

Sorry i can't agree with that.Well yes 5 on 5 play is important to winning the inability to score on the pp can severly hamper a teams chances of winning. The same can be said for a team with a poor pk unit that the inability to stop a team from scoring well playing short handed can also severly hamper a teams chances of winning.I would be more inclined to believe that a team has to be good in all aspects of the game to succeed as all areas of the game are equally important to winning because after all during the course of a game you will more than likely have to play the game under all three situations and not being able to perform one of them well could cost you the game.
I agree that a team should be good at all areas of the game to win alot. I never said anything to the contrary. However, even-strength correlates more highly to a team's winning percentage than their special teams performance does. Again, not to say that special teams are unimportant: they have a high correlation as well. Just not as high even-strength.

The Oilers have been my second favourite team since the '97 playoffs.

Good point, Daryl. The ultimate sign of success is the "W" column. Regardless of the goals scored on even-strength or PP ya gotta win the games.
