It's news that will either prompt Oilers GM Kevin Lowe to get busy on the Mike Comrie trade front or, at the very least, pursue a pivot to replace Reasoner in a separate deal.
"We'll be looking," Oilers vice-president of hockey operations Kevin Prendergast said. "Whether we get anything is another matter, but we'll make a lot of phone calls. We've already started."
Reasoner, 26, who will have a pin inserted in his ankle, has been 50 per cent on the dot this season. With the Oilers last in the NHL in faceoff percentage at 44.6 per cent going into last night's game with Minnesota, it's a loss they can ill afford.
The Oilers put in a call to the agent of Adam Oates, but he's not interested. Contrary to speculation, they have no interest in Cliff Ronning. Of course, with Comrie awaiting a trade and Reasoner out, Prendergast fully expects teams to come calling.

The stakes have been raised. K-Lowe is going to have to make some difficult decisions. You don't want to be in a position of weakness when making a trade but how else can you look at the Oiler's situation right now, other than that?
Three things the Oil have to do:
1.) improve the special teams...BOTH the PP and PK.
2.) address the goaltending situation
3.) resolve the Comrie fiasco
I don't think K-Lowe is in a position of power to do any of these at this point. The last thing I want him to do is make deals involving draft picks. The Oil need someone (or, somebodies) NOW.
