The Oilers host the Detroit Red Wings tonight at 8pm MT, CBC. After this game will be a 6-game road trip for the Oilers, so it would be good for them to come out with a win. Ty Conklin was taken off the IR and sent down Stephen Valquette. Detroit may play Joseph today, after Cujo lost to Nashville Thursday, 5-3. Tony Salmelainen was called up for the Oilers Thursday night against the Jackets and took tjr place of day-to-day Georges Laraque.
The Wings are in the midst of goaltender "problems". If Cujo gets the nod I'm sure the Oiler fans will be on him like a fat kid on a box of Smarties.
The Oil have a good chance of setting things up for a long 6 game road trip if they can win this one against the Wings. Confidence is such an important thing with a young club.
Yzerman and gang are doing well. The Oil have their work cut out for themselves and are going to need some stellar netminding from Tommy, tonight. My guess - Oil over the Wings by 2 goals.

I agree.
The Oilers beat the Blue Jackets in OT which shows they can win. If they can beat the Wings in regulation it will be a huge boost in confidence, which they will need for the gruelling road trip. The Oilers are in for a tough road trip in which they face the Canadiens, Senators, Leafs, Rangers, Bruins, and Wild. Only the Rangers will be a pushover, and unless Gaborik is playing, maybe the Wild. Let's hope Salo settles down and plays like we know he can and not like his current stats suggest.
As for the Wings, they have lost their last three games; to the Rangers, Blues and Predators. The Wings are frustrated and it boiled over during the Nashville game. Level headedness may have returned for tonight's game and this veteran laden team should put up a high shot total tonight. The big problem is their lack of a solid goaltender. If Cujo starts, I expect Legace to replace him during the second period.
In the end, I think the Oilers will win 5 - 4 in a nail biter.

Oh my prediction was right, 4-4 tie. Edmonton played OK, but not great. Way too many giveaways in there own end. Oilers almost got blown away from a 2-0 lead, but luckily came back. Bergeron, York, and Dvorak all got 2 points. Salo saved a penatly shot from Brendan Shanahan.
i watched most of this game at work...i watch it when they were losing 4-2...suprised to here they came back to tie...awsome job on by the Oilers...hard to come back against Detroit.
This game wasn't to bad... Salo was great for all but the last 7-8mins of the second. Legace is the ONLY reason that this game was so close, he made awsome, awsome saves tonight. Turn overs almost cost the oilers the game, they need to play a bit smarter in their own and neutral zone. Over all they're looking pretty good... great game for the York line.

Good game by the Oil (except for the 2nd period). I was really impressed by their fore-checking abilities especially in the 1st. I dunno what happened but they fell apart in the 2nd and let Brett Hull have free rein. I'm glad they got their act together in the 3rd and managed to at least salvage a tie. The way the Oil were playing in the 1st they should've won this game.
What was with that call on Salo (throwing the stick)? When Shanny came down to shoot the puck he was to Salo's left but still high from the crease. When Salo lunged over to that side his stick left his hand and shot over to the corner - no where near Shanny. That was a bogus call!
I was really disappointed with Greg Millen. Every time a Wing would get the puck in Oiler territory he would point out another Oiler give-away. Albeit there were a few give-aways, they all weren't. Does he know what a give-away is? Same goes with the spectacular saves by Manny. It seemed every time Legace toched the puck it was a fantastic save. Not all of them were fantastic - most were of the ordinary type. Call a game like it is, not how YOU see it, Millen!
