The Oilers (3-4-0-0) host the Flames (3-2-0-0) tonight at Skyreach in the first game of a three-game homestand. It's the second of six games between the Oilers and Flames this season and the first of three visits to Edmonton by Calgary. The Oilers trail the seasonal series 0-1-0-0 following a 1-0 loss at Calgary on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
What are your thoughts on the game?
I'm hoping that the Oil come out mad as hell and start banging (without the endless parade to the penalty box). Maybe this will be a typical Battle of Alberta unlike that lame game from last Tuesday.
The Oilers better win today. Less penalties today, this is should be a game to get it going again. The Edmonton Journal said what the line up may look like - without Isbister:
I am glad to see Stoll in the lineup, but instead of Izzy.....I dunno. I would've taken out Pisani instead. But at least it gets Smyth out of center, he doesn't belong there. Let's hope that experiment just ended. Stoll adn Torres should be able to get it going, ahving palyed together last year in Hamilton. As for defence, Brewer needs to step up.
This game didn't seem so bad until the OIlers compeltly collapsed in the third, the D was almost non-existant and the penalties that they took where rather dumb. The bench minor cost us, and the breakaway shouldn't have happened at all. The oilers are lacking discpline, and their inability to hold onto a lead is getting pretty crazy.

I tell ya, I had no idea that Oliwa could do that.
Clearly Salo didn't either, any other player he wouldn't have tried to poke check.
It must eat Edmontonians up inside knowing that our 3 leading scorers are from Edmonton and our 4th is Matthew Lombardi! Cause it makes me all warm inside.

What a brutal game. Brewer really screwed up at center ice on that breakaway. Edmonton came out with their game faces on and took it to Calgary....but, Calgary was ready for them and threw it right back at them and won the game.
A total of 18 shots on goal for Edmonton is not going to win games (Staios had 4 shots, Smyth had 5). They have to shoot more. Lots more. I don't know why Raffi Torres only had 8 shifts for a total of 4 min. 15 sec. of ice time.
The best players out there last night was Smyth, Staios and Ferggy... I am not sure about everyone else but the Oilers play of late is really starting to frustrate me. The reason they've been losing games lately has been because of disicpline, they let the game get away from them by making stupid plays and taking stupid penalties. Turn overs have really become an issue, the amount of turns over in their own end and in the netrual zone are costing them games. This team can score, after those two shutouts they've scored alot of goals but they've also been very careless in their own end. IMO Salo also needs to play better, he has to be able to make a game saving, save some nights. The Oilers as a whole need to start playing smarter hockey, this cannot go on for much longer.
