The Edmonton Oilers have announced the signing of veteran forward Ethan Moreau to a four-year contract. Moreau’s deal is considered one of the longest in club history.
Last season, Moreau recorded 14 goals and 17 assists for a career-high 31 points in 74 games. He was the recipient of the Oilers 2002-03 Unsung Hero Award. The 2003-04 season marks Moreau’s ninth NHL campaign and sixth with the Oilers.
Oilers General Manager Kevin Lowe says, “Ethan is coming off a solid season and has been a big part of our organization for the past five years. We are very excited to have him under contract for the next four years and believe his leadership and determination are qualities, which are vital to our hockey club. He is a perfect role model for our young guys to look up to.”
The 6’2”, 210 pound left-winger, a first round draft choice (14th overall) in 1994 says, “I am extremely happy to be a part of the Oilers organization for another four years. My family and I are proud to be part of the Edmonton community and are excited about raising our young family here.”
This signing is a complete message to Mike Comrie from both Lowe and Moreau. Hopefully greedy Mike will get the message and see that Edmonton is where he should be. I can't think of a better place to play hockey. Can you?

Actually, I can think of a few 8) ...but for another day. I don't think this was a message to Comrie so much. The more we hear, the more its the other way around. Comrie lived in LA this summer, sold his house and behind doors has asked for a trade(my source was listening to the Sens pregame show the other day, so its obviously not 100% reliable, but the first 2 are fact). I really think they'll dump him!!!
I really liked the way Moreau stepped up last season, he had an awsome year.... great source of leadership for the younger players. He was awsome on both ends of the ice, and played really good in the playoffs also. I am glad to have him back, he is diffently an assest.
Comrie on the other hand, I have to agree with CM if he keeps holding out I can see the Oil dropping him for someone else b4 to long.

Anyone hear anything about the financial numbers of the contract? Neither TSN or Sportsnet have it in their stories.
Glad to see another member of the team returning. Comrie should follow Moreau's lead and sign before the season starts.
From what I last heard Lowe was offerning 1.1mill and Comrie wanted nothing less then 3mill, so that where the dispute is. I think Lowes hopes when he locked Comrie out of training camp was to pressure him into signing. The worst thing for a player is missing training camp, because when he does return to the team it takes most player at least a few weeks to even get up to the level they should be at the start of season. The sooner Comrie signs or asks for a trade the better it is for Comrie, the team is adjusting to not having in the line up and he probably wont be missed to much once season starts.... The only one losing anything really from this is Comrie.
