Edmonton didn't get on the board until the final minute of the game.
CALGARY - Martin Gelinas had a goal and an assist and Roman Turek was perfect in his 40 minutes in net as the Calgary Flames won 4-1 over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night in NHL pre-season play.
Turek spent much of last season in coach Darryl Sutter's dog house but he got off to a good start in his first appearance.
The Flames goaltender did not need to be spectacular but he was steady, stopping all 14 shots he faced through 40 minutes before giving way to Brent Krahn for the final period.
The closest the Oilers came to scoring was when Jarrett Stoll ripped a shot from the right wing that dribbled through Turek's pads, but defenceman Toni Lydman was there to pull the puck off the goal line.
Dave Lowry, Chuck Kobasew, and Robert Dome also scored for Calgary, which won its first game of the pre-season game after tying the Oilers on Thursday.
Steve Staios scored with 45 seconds left in the third to provide the only offence for Edmonton, which drops to 0-1-1.
After a scoreless opening period, Calgary took the lead at 6:10 when Jordan Leopold's shot on a two-on-one could not be controlled by Ty Conklin and the rebound was chipped in by Lowry.
Later in the second, a productive shift from Gelinas put Calgary ahead 3-0.
At 14:04, Gelinas took a pass from Iginla and fired a quick shot over Conklin's glove.
Just 43 seconds later, Gelinas poked a loose puck out from under Conklin and Kobasew was right there in the crease to fire in his second goal in two games.
Iginla also had a hand in Dome's third period goal sliding a pass into the slot that Dome neatly buried just under the cross bar.
Conklin went the distance in goal for Edmonton and finished with 23 saves.
Notes - Edmonton was forced to play the final 34 minutes with just four defencemen. Bobby Allen left in the first period after taking knock to the head and Brent Henley was ejected six minutes into the second for his fight with Flames defenceman Mike Commodore, who was also ejected ... The Oilers assigned ten players to their AHL affiliate in Toronto and returned two to junior leaving them with 33 players in camp. Calgary has 38 players left in camp.
Don't worry, Conklin didn't do great, but nor bad either. He will still be backup, after all it's only preseason; finding the last adjustments to teh teams roster and line combinations.
The Oilers dressed 16 players that weren't dressed last preseason game, and liek Grandpa Oiler mentioned they where only playing with 4 d-men. Agian this was just a preseason game and the oilers still trying to define who will make their team and who wont. I am sure by the time the season starts the team will have improved greatly.
