Default Oilers 3 - Flames 3

1st preseason game and the Oil tie the Flames 3-3 in Cowtown. Oilers were outshot. Salo got the start and Deslauriers finished and let in a couple goals. Of note: the Flames dressed their top line of Conroy, McAmmond and Iginla.

Jason Chimera got a shorthanded goal. Isbister scored on the PP. Brewer picked up a couple of helpers.

Ya, I listened to the first period on the radio. Jani Rita scored the first goal.

What were all the line combos? I heard that Smyth centered Isbister and Pisani. Naturally Rita was playing with Reasoner.

Ya I can't remember them all...

Isbister-Smyth-Pisani
Rita-Reasoner-Dvorak

Poliot was playing as well as, Jamie Wright, ooh... I can't really remember.

Mikko Luoma-Smith

Salo started, but Jeff Deslauriers took over in the third. SAlo let in 1, Deslauriers 2.

Actually....Salo played the first 29:48 and didn't allow a goal on nine shots before giving way to rookie Jeff Deslauriers with a 3 - 0 lead.

To me...it was a typical MacTavish coaching effort...

when the team is pumped and not in need of coaching...the Oilers took a 3-0 lead...when the team needed to be coached as the adrenaline wore off...Sutter outcoached us and the Flames came back to tie us.

I'm not screaming for MacT's head but for as much as the Oilers will make the play-offs...can we go further with MacT??

Mind you that this was only a preseason game, and the team is trying to find some chemistry from its lines. This was Smyths frist game playing center, and he didn't fair to well...Playing Deslauriers wasn't a bad move at all, I am sure MacT wanted to see how well he would fair in net... Even though the Oilers lost this lead, the players learned some valuable information about how ready they are for the upcomming season. Next game there will probably be a major improvement.

Smyth will do just fine in the C position he adapts well plus he works hard all the time so he'll get used to it even quicker.

Welcome new Oilers fan!! We have tons of Oil fans here and this Oiler forums is among teh busiest in the team forums.

Anyway, I think Smyth would do fine in the center position, but I doubt he'll play there. It's not because his poor faceoff ability, it's because we need him on the wing, where he is great along the boards. A quick change to center for him would be a surprise, after playing winger all his career on teh Oilers, and being a leader. I think the four center will be: York, Horcoff, Reasoner, and Stoll. If any of these players gets injured, Smyth will be the fill in since there aren't any other center available.
