Default Comrie Is Still Unsigned!

The Edmonton Oilers still have not reached terms with Mike Comrie. Comrie wants more than the qualifying offer, about 1.3 million and for more years. Sportsnet also reported that Mikes agent, Rich Winters ask for a trade. I think the Oilers should sign him a 3 year deal worth about 1.5M a year, because we cannot afford to lose him. Trading Moreau would free up some money for that. If he goes unsigned and he departs elsewhere, we'd have Reasoner and Horcoff, which is not so good at center. Thoughts?

"leadership" and Mike Comrie cannot be in the same sentence. Explain to me how he has taken a leadership role on this team. For him to even question his salary after two seasons doesn't impress me. I have the same sickly feeling in my gut as I did when Jason Arnott was bitching and complaining.

If he was to leave Edmonton I wouldn't lose any sleep.

He has tons of leadership skills, he just needs to show them a bit more. And I would'nt count on him leaving Edmonton

You've got to be kiddin', right? My guess is....during the playoffs the guys who lead the rest of the team in the room were; Smyth, Smith, Brewer Moreau and Staios. My bet is that little Mikey probably sat in the corner complaining of his sore thumb.

Comrie has shown lot's of leadership in the 2.5 seasons he's played in Edmonton. Have you guys forgotten how well he played vs Dallas in the 2001 playoffs? He outplayed Weight in that series and showed that the Oilers could get along without their greedy, American Captain.

And let's net forget the scraps that Comrie has had with Briere and Kovalchuk. If there were a flyweight fighting division in the NHL he'd be the Champ!

Just because he played injured last season and didn't outplay a superstar like Modano doesn't mean he should be traded elsewhere. He's going into his 4th season, usually a breakout season for forwards, and you guys want to run him out of town on a rail...get a grip!

The trade me story is nothing more than a contract ploy...come on boys and girls, we've all seen this before!!!!!

For starters, the teams that could use Comrie can't afford to give up what we need to cover our loss(e.g. Calgary, Nashville, Montreal) while the teams that could cover our loss don't need/want Comrie(Rangers, Detriot)

The only team I see any sort of trade happening with is the Islanders and that would include Scatchard and/or Parrish.

Comrie has said he will be at training camp, and I for one want him here for at least one year(sign him to a year + option for 2 more) because for as hard as Oiler fans(including myself) were on Comrie last year after he rushed back from his thumb injury, I still believe he is something special...and if he could get some chemistry going with Isbister and Dvorak...that line would cause some serious twine-bulging in the NHL.

Look what happened when Ryan Smyth rushed his broken ankle so he could get in a few games before Salt Lake...incredible! Comrie had a broken thumb. One other note - Oiler brass has a policy that guys without contracts can't skate with the club.

I've said before a million times, so it's probably worth saying one more time: don't trade a good young player because he isn't yet a great young player.

Advice the Oilers could have used before trading a certain Miroslav Satan.
