What do you think?

Yay, another Oil fan! i think Jason will continue to be captain next year, but really, I think Ryan Smyth should have it. Along with Smith, Smyth and Moreau will probably have the A's on their jerseys with Staios being an altnerate captain.

Ryan Smyth has shown in the past that he has the ability to lead a team. Steve Staois was the team captain during his tenure with the Thrashers before coming to Edmonton.

Jason Smith has been captain for what - two, three years? I thought he made an impact with his play the first year he was with the Oil but recently his play (IMHO) has tailed off. I'm guessing there are a few people out there that will agree. However, during last year's playoffs I thought he turned it up a bit.

We don't know what goes on in the dressing room but I'm guessing that Smith is a leader. It takes more than just being a star player. Mental focus and toughness and the ability to rally your troops are some of the characteristics required.

The players you selected in your poll have what it takes. Interesting question but I think I would leave the status quo alone. It's hard to tell if there would be any gain by changing captains or if the chemistry or dynamics in the room would be different.

Like slapshot said staois has some experience no doubt. Smyth I think could and would be not a good but great leader. yet, i still agree on smith being the captain of the oil.

I would leave well enough alone, in terms of the captaincy. I'm sure Smith wasn't named captain by accident.

Staios... I like his grit, his tenacity. He was a captain in Atlanta, but let's remember that it was a rotating captaincy. Anybody with some experience was given a chance to wear the 'C'. The number of penalties he take don't prove to be TOO costly to Edmonton, as his offensive contribution is higher. Jason Smith only breaks even in this category.

When Jason Smith moves on, I'm sure that Smyth will be named Captain. Kevin Lowe made sure to get him experience at the Olympics, and with him captaining the gold medal winners at the World Championships, Smyth has more valuable experience. I think he's ready for it, but that there's not a real reason to take it from the current captain.

The oilers were very correct upon their decision and yes changing captains isn't a very often thing with the oiler organization. I'm sure as long as smith remains the "C" stays on his jeresy.

Jason Smith deserves to captin, and has done pretty good leading this team. Although I'll be the first to admit he has had times where hes been shakey in that role. This season Smith needs to step and really lead this team, the Oilers need to see him lay more hits, block more shots and be solid on the back end. Last season he made some mistakes that he shouldn't have been making, he needs to have some confidence in the role that he has been placed in and show why he was choosen to be captin.

With Jason Smith fully recovered from his shoulder injury, I expect him to be the solid hitting, solid defending defenseman he was when the C was placed on his shoulder.

Ryan Smyth & Steve Staios are easily our 2 assistant's.

Moreau(IMO) is nothing more than a 3rd line winger...and if some of the kids like Torres and Stoll actually make the team and Chimera begins producing...then I figure Moreau should be pushed out...
for now he's a security blanket.

Smythie might be the heart and sould of the team but he's not a good talker so he isn't really captain maerial. Stick with Smith for a while and then we'll see
