Hey you all. I'm a hard-core Oiler fan and I was wondering... who else here is an Oiler fan? I am really looking forward to some better Oiler discussions.

I'm a die-hard Oil fan. This season is going to be fantastic. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also waiting to see what happens with the Ryan Smyth arbitration....we should hear something soon.

I read in the Edmonton Journal today that the hearing will be on August 14. I hope he signs for about the same as last year (around 3M), or the Oil may not be able to afford him and have to trade him :( . I hear he might want 4M and he could win easily with that.

I don't think we could afford to lose smyth. Our team has already lost depth, we can't lose another leader to money!

I don't think the Oil will let Ryan Smyth go. My (uneducated) guess is that the League will give him much, much more than the obligatory 10% raise. Blues forward Pavol Demitra got a $2.5M raise the other day. He had an excellent season last year with the Blues. Smyth had a good season as well with the Oil and was also Captain Canada at the IIHF Championships winning gold (not that the League will look at that).

All said and done - I'm in agreement with you, hockeykid11, in guessing Ryan and the Oil will settle for around $4.0 - $4.5M. Thoughts, anyone else?

Just like guerin the money factor kicked in. The oilers may not be able to afford to give smyth so much and if not im not so sure if he will settle for anything less.
