As a friend, Kevin Lowe would love to see Scott Howson get the general manager's job in Columbus.
As someone who understands better than anyone else how much Howson contributes to the Oilers, he'd hate like heck to see him leave.
With Howson on the Blue Jackets' short list, and being interviewed in Columbus today, Lowe will find out soon enough whether he gets his assistant GM back or loses him forever.
"You want to see guys get an opportunity and he's deserving of it," said Lowe, in between sessions at the Oilers' prospects development camp at Millennium Place. "That's been our organizational philosophy for a number of years."
Indeed, the Oilers let minor league coach Claude Julien out of his Hamilton Bulldogs contract midway through the 2002-03 season to take a job with the Montreal Canadiens, and aren't about to stand in the way of Howson's big chance.
