(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings open a five-game homestand this evening, when they welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings last played Tuesday evening against the Blackhawks and posted a 4-1 road victory in the Windy City. This is not a home-and-home series, however, since Chicago had a test against Colorado on Thursday evening.

Tomas Holmstrom scored a pair of goals to lead Detroit to Tuesday's triumph in Chicago.

DETROIT (AP) -Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek wouldn't dress for Friday night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks as a precautionary measure because of some tenderness in his thigh.

The team said it recalled goalie Jimmy Howard from its AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids to back up Chris Osgood Friday night. Howard is 16-14-1 with the Griffins this season, with a 2.81 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.

Howard is 1-2-0 in four NHL appearances.
