Default Ken Hollands Philosophy

There was an article posted on mlive that posted the 9 things Holland tries to follow in building his team, and I found it very interesting. All 9 things seem like common sense, but they are hard to balance and harder to achieve than I think most people think. Holland has done a great job of it during his tenure as the Wings GM.

Yeah, Ken Holland wrote it for The Hockey News.

I enjoyed that article, and found it nice to hear somebody echo my old stand-by comment about defensive defensemen: they're fine, but make sure you don't pay a lot for them.

In the book "Winning Decisions", there was a simple matrix that showed the most basic outcomes based on management style:

Code:
Good Outcome Bad Outcome ------------------------------------------------------ Good Process | Deserved Success | Bad Break Bad Process | Dumb Luck | Poetic Justice

Holland's teams, for the most part, exist largely within the upper-left box: they have a good process and usually enjoy a good outcome. It's what any well managed club shoots for, after all.
