You could always start a new tradition in Montreal. Throw a dead horse on the ice. After all, you are beating a dead horse...."The dream is alive! 24 and counting!"
Rim shot please!
ahahahaa!!! I'll give you that rim shot! hilarious!
I don't mind that the octopus is thrown on the ice and I don't care that it's swung around before being taken off the ice...just as long as none of that "gunk" gets into our dear NHL commissioner, Gary Buttman's eyes.
did I say Buttman...I meant Bettman...my bad...

HOCKEY is a potentially hazardous situation, occasionally.

ahahaha, yes, yuck it up.
I get pretty wisecracks from wings about my sig, and from Flyers about my name......
Guess I'd have to give him a rim shot.....that crack was pretty cute xD
Wow, I never knew too much about the octipus, look them up on Wikipedia it's a pretty interesting read. Seems like a waste to toss them on the ice being as unique as they are. They are a great playoff mascot though. Males sometimes only live 6 months and die shortly after mating.
Less is more in this case I think. Seeing 8+ flying onto the ice during one game takes the originallity out of it.

Being at a game live, its always great to see the Octopus fly. There is always an awesome reaction from the crowd.
i dont think that you should change a tradition but then again maybe they should use fake octopuses like they do for rats in florida. Baut they did win the cup this year so if i was the a fan at the game i wouldnt change because when your wining you dont change a thing.

At least the octopus has some sort of symbolic meaning, albeit, that meaning is now obsolete as it takes more than 8 games to win Lord Stanley's Cup these days. Nevertheless, the rubber rats in Florida are simply a cheesy attempt to take another team's tradition. Traditions have to mean something, and if the only thing a panther can catch is rats, as I believe throwing them onto the ice would suggest, then I think that panther might eventually die of starvation and/or stupidity.
well techically, NHL rules prohibit the throwing of anything onto the ice surface. even though most ushers don't actually enforce the rule, most wings fans i have talked to who have been thrown out for throwing the octopus will go to a scalper outside and buy new tickets and go right back in. So if anything, they are helping our economy.
