Default Did Steve Wonder have to retire?

The great 19 did he have to retire or could he have gone a few more seasons?
Do you also think he should have got a coaching job?

Im suprised and I respect how long Stevie Y actually lasted. He revived a franchise and won for them three Stanley Cups and sacrificed the use of his body for that franchise. Him playing anymore seasons would have been just down right greed by any fan. He was getting old and hurting as each shift went on. Yes Stevie Y had to retire.

i think that he could have played maybe 1 or 2 more seasons but his knees were really bad. personally i think he did it for the good of the team.

1. Yes it was time for Yzerman to retire. To say otherwise is just silly.

2. Chelios is welcome back for as long as he wants. He's solid, and he doesn't seem to have injury problems.

Tha's what I was wondering. Cant' even think of someone that fits the enfocer mold for the Wings since.....Bob Probert? Im sure there has to be somoene after him, but Chelios he is not.

Depends on what you consider an enforcer. Downey, McCarty, Drake are all players that really don't do much other than fight and play some defense. They aren't exactly scary, but they know their role. Avery played for us a couple years, and we had Daryl Bootland up in 03/04. Thats pretty much an exhaustive list since Probert, I think.

That explains why I couldnt' think of a Wings enforcer. Ya guys that basicalyl know their role as it were woudl fit hte enforcer mold; they can check and fight, but not much else. The bar to reach for all of them is someone like Stevens. Plays defense, has great skill, and ask anyone that's been bodychecked by the guy to see if he can enforce himself on the ice?
