Hey everyone,
I'm down here in Australia and I didn't get to watch, nor listen to it on NHLGameRadio because I was at work, but it's good to see a 2-1 win!
What I'm inquiring about is the animosity between the teams. You see, after that Pronger/Niedermayer hit on Holmstrom a while back, I've wanted to slit their throats, BUT, according to the game summary today there was a fight between Cleary and Pronger. Any old blood in this fight? I mean, I know there are all sorts of reasons why the blokes fight, but I just get the feeling that this was a little bit more than the enforcers doing their jobs.
What is the Wings' sentiment towards the ducks, is it like a Detroit/Colorado rivalry/hate/bitterness?
I'm still a little fresh on the game and the customs of it so can you fill me in?
Cheers guys, game on!

Pronger is a ******* and Cleary decided to fight him, which was probably a bad idea. Don't think there is really any animosity between the two really, but there definitely is some between the two teams. This was without a doubt the most exciting game I've seen all year.
Does this have Colorado/ Detroit potential? Possibly. If we play them again in the playoffs a number of times in the coming years, then definitely. The only problem is that Detroit doesn't have the big guys to really bring it in a physical rivalry, but they have more than enough skill to compensate for it.
I couldn't believe Hasek's play in this game, he was absolutely fantastic, especially in the last couple minutes of the game. Bertuzzi taking a run at him probably got him right riled up, but not in the way Bert wanted him to be. Dom is such a great competitor, something like that isn't going to shake him enough to make him play poorly.
Franzen and Kopecky also had huge games. Kronwall threw a couple big hits, the one on Perry definitely put a smile on my face. The only thing that worried me in this game is how easily the Ducks cycled the pucks in our zone in the 3rd. We really need a big body to jar the puck lose so we can clear.
If you have any questions, just ask, I'll be more than willing to answer. It's great to have another Wings fan on the board.
Pronger should have his head kicked in. I swear, even just reading his name makes me want to cut hit balls off with his own teeth!
I can't wait to watch the highlights of the game, at least that'll give me some insight as to what it looked like. I would have killed to have been at the game, even to have watched it on TV! I had a feeling it would be a ripper!
Good call with the lack of really big guys, I mean, it's not as if the team is full of little munchkins, but in a comparison between size and skills, we definitely have a much sharper edge in the skills department.
So Hasek was great today, huh? I suppose that's no surprise, heh heh! Bertuzzi made a run on him, yet Hasek still maintained his composure? Good to hear that he kept cool, but man, Bertuzzi, what a bastard.
Yeah I thought Kopecky might've had a good night, especially with his assist on Filppula's goal. That should give him a real confidence shot. Kronwall has been dishing out some big hits, hasn't he? It's funny because as I read that I'd just watched the video of him on RWTV at the North American Motor Show. He's a real class act, funny guy too. Last couple of games he's really laid down the law.
I was really impressed with the Wings answering the bell. They cant run with the Ducks in the physical department, of this, there is no doubt. But they can play thru it with grit and determination. They did that.
It was the third game of a 3 game West coast trip. The Wings were playing on a back-to-back. They didnt have Zetterberg in the lineup.
Yet they still found a way to win. I thought Datsyuk had a real good game even though he didnt log on the stat sheet. Rafalski, for being completely undersized as a dman, and being punished every time he got the puck in the corner, had a real strong game as well.
Anaheim looks to be rounding into form. As long as the Wings dont blow it in the forst round of the playoffs, they'll being seeing each other again in the WCFs.
I expect a different outcome. This team is light-years better than last year. There are no passengers on this squad, unlike last year (Bertuzzi, Calder). Datsyuk and Zetterberg are waaaaaaaay better than last year and Hasek looks as though he has found his Domination again.
All in all, I just want the playoffs to start now. Its obvious the Wings are going to finish first overall....the rest of league just needs to decide who will play them.
But it just gets my bile up to watch the Ducks. I hate these guys.
I view them as cheap-shot artists and punks. You know those guys in your rec league that do stuff because they know the ref isn't looking? And its a rec league? That's how I feel about the Ducks. They're a bunch of hacks.
The defense makes a religion out of interfering with forwards, and they routinely make runs (charging) at players unable to defend themselves. They take a lot of penalties but believe (rightfully so) that the refs will stop calling them eventually.
Then the refs make BS calls on the Wings. Lidstrom and Datsyuk who combine for like 2 minor penalties a year each take interference calls in the game when O'Donnell intereferes 4 times a shift and gets nothing.
Anyway, I'm just glad the Wings won. I'm still a little worked up about the game. Like the Avs, I hope soon the Ducks are but a speed bump in our rear-view mirror of what used to be.
My sentiments exactly - and good call with that bile thing, it's like instant reflux every time you see that ****ty black jersey.
Come playoffs time, I hope like hell that the team all has cool heads, direct focus and professionalism so, regardless of any of the **** that goes down, the Wings just trounces everyone.
Man I wish I was in North America right now.
Oh well, soon to come hopefully!
