There really aren't any rumors circulating around the Wings right now, as they shouldn't be, considering the fact that they are the best team in the league right now even without Zetterberg and Holmstrom. But, it is expected that around the trade deadline Holland will make a run for a 2nd line winger and a 3rd or 4th defenseman. We really don't need more than that, and despite having the cap space, don't have the assets to acquire anything more.
Detroit's needs at the start of the season were secondary scoring and bottom 3 defense / stay-at-home defense.
Detroit's played well enough for both of those "needs" to seem less necessary, especially given that Hudler, Filppula, Franzen, Cleary, and Samuelsson are getting points. If the PP and PK unit was struggling, you'd hear more rumors.
Names to watch:
1). Forsberg. If he comes back, expect Detroit to ask him to come back here.
2). Foote. If Columbus falters down the stretch, this would be the guy everyone wants. I don't think Detroit would put a competitve package together, but if the price were right (Meech, a 1st, a second?) I could see Holland pursuing it.
3). Fedorov. Very unlikely, but again, if Columbus is out of it, he would provide a real "secondary" threat for the Wings.
I ran out of "F" names, so that's it for the rumor mill.
Imagine the lines with either Forsberg or Fedorov in Detroit:
Z - D -H
Hudler - Feds/Fors - Filppula
Cleary - Draper - Samuelsson
Maltby - Franzen - Drake/Downey/Kopecky
Only rumour i am consistently hearing is that they might make a play for Mats Sundin, which would fit in with their history of loading up on vets for the playoffs. Otherwise, i really dont see the Wings needing a lot, they are pretty solid.
I don't see the Wings make a competitive push for either Sundin or Hossa, because its not another top line player that we really need. If they can put a fairly cheap offer for either of them, not sacrificing too many assets, than that would be great, but we have to remember that Zetterberg needs to be signed next summer, especially when it comes to Hossa. They already have a good chunk of change locked up in Datsyuk, Rafalski, and Lidstrom.

I agree. Hossa is way beyond Detroit's price range. Now, would I trade Hudler, Kopecky, and a first for Hossa? Its the money that causes hesitation. If I'm Atlanta, I think that's a good value, but I think other teams might be able to give more.
Sundin is interesting, but I just don't see him moving. He would cost less, but he doesn't really meet the Wings needs.
Ultimatly, signing Zetterberg to a 5-7 year contract (or longer) is the important thing.
Whats the chance of Forsberg if declared fit enough to return to the NHL. Wouldnt mind Hossa like and what money do we have available rumour has it in the UK Zetterberg is about to sign a 10yr deal with the Wings any news on that or is it pure speculation

I have heard that Detroit are very close to signing Zetterberg, could even be done this week, but the length im hearing is anywhere between 5-8 years, not 10.
As for Forsberg, it is pretty much a given that if he comes back he would prefer to play for either Philly or Colorado, with Philly having the upper hand right now, so Spector is saying anyway.
