Datsyuk as been on a role lately, probably at the perfect time because Zetterberg has slowed down a tiny bit. The team didn't look great again Phoenix, but managed a win I think because of the great play of Datsyuk and again Osgood.

Spot on. Osgood was the man in that game. To be honest, Phoenix played very well. Their forecheck was very effective and aggressive.
I think its good to see the Wings actually struggle for a win. Coasting thru the season doesnt help any team in the playoffs. Phoenix is a much improved team with Bryzgalov in net. The whole team is playing better in front of him.
Honestly, Datsyuk is the better player. I think in terms of pure skill, whether it be passing, shooting, stickhandling, lifting the stick, protecting the puck, protecting himself, avoiding the hit, etc., the nod goes to Datsyuk. He excels in almost every area. Z is taking more faceoffs, so perhaps he's now better in that area (he wasn't when they both started).
Where Zetterberg really imposes his will is through his "Relentless Tenacity." It takes only those two words to describe Z. Some have called Z a poor man's Forsberg. But Forsberg was a very different player. More gifted offensively, more physical. Z doesn't avoid contact, but he doesn't seek it the way ole crippled Floppa did. And while Z has started to find his game offensively, he's more opportunistic than creative, if that makes sense.
Honestly, the two really feed off each other and make the other better. but my personal feeling is that Datsyuk is a more gifted hockey player.
But I love the way Z never, ever gives up a on puck.

Great post, and welcome to the forum, but I'm going to have to disagree on a couple counts. First, I really don't see Datsyuk better than Zetterberg in terms of shoot, protecting the puck, or even lifting the stick. In terms of stick handling and passing, Datsyuk is definitely the better player, but in terms of finishing, and I think shooting, Zetterberg is definitely better. At the faceoff dot, and at takeaways, I'd say its very near a draw, all of the Red Wings players that can play center seem to excel at faceoffs.
But really, its all a matter of perspective, and really seems to vary night by night. One thing you are absolutely right on is that they feed off of each other magnificently, and seem to have brought Holmstrom into their little circle. I love both of them, and I really think that they, along with Lidstrom, make Detroit a better team than they should be. Pretty soon we're going to have to add Osgood with that group too... the guy has been unreal.
Thanks for the welcome! I love the Wings, so you'll see me around here from time to time.
I'm certainly a big Henrik Zetterberg fan. He's amazing. But what can I say? Ever since the Russian 5, I've been a "Russophile." I guess. Datsyuk's had to do a lot to make me forget Kozlov when I see the number 13...I do think Datsyuk is very under-rated Defensively, as really, both he and Z are Selke-Caliber.

Hasek in net tonight agaisnt the Wild. Go Wings!
Ahh, the Russian 5... I have to think really hard to remember them together, that was when I first started watching the Wings. And I definitely agree that Datsyuk's defensive ability is greatly underrated, where Zetterberg is finally getting the recognition he deserves for it.
And Hasek in net? Well he had a good game against the Habs, hopefully he can keep it up.
And it will be great to have you around, there can never be enough Wings fans to discuss with.
Datsyuk for sure.. His puck handling skills are amazing, he can move around like a feather, and stop on a dime.. On top of that, he can score and is a great play maker.
