Both put up good numbers. Zetterberg is on fire right now but I think Datsyuk is the better player overall. I'm very interested to see how long Zetterburg will be on fire.

I re-read his first two sentences and still cant grasp what he's trying to say, yet you agree.
Did I miss something?
I have no idea what this wing nut was trying to say either, what terrible typing that was.
I'll put it this way.
Datsyuk is one hell of a player, very talented and has a vast amount of finesse to his game, but I'd take the solid two-way play of Zetterberg who I compare to as Detroit's Peter Forsberg any day.
Plus Datsyuk is ugly as sin, poor guy. It's a good thing he's smooth with his stick, he's not going to go far with his looks.

There's a website that I really like, behindthenet.ca. The author of the site has gathered the results of shift charts for all players, and produced results from the raw data. This is something that I've wanted to do ever since I read about the use of this idea in basketball, but luckily, he did all of that work.
From these charts, we can tell who a player's linemates were, who he played against, so on and so on.
The really great thing about knowing these numbers is that we can now tell how much better or worse a team is when a player is on the ice compared to when he is on the bench.
It all boils down to a statistic called On/Off +/-, which is the difference between a player's +/- per 60 minutes and that of the team when he is not on the ice. This is particularly helpful for viewing good players on poor teams. Anyway...
On/Off+-, 2007, for Datsyuk and Zetterberg:
Zetterberg: 1.73
Datsyuk: 1.56
And this year, so far:
Zetterberg: 2.48
Datsyuk: 2.27
Zetterberg comes out better last year and this season as well, but it's a little bit closer than some would think.
I like them both a lot. Datsyuk has been my favorite player since he has been in the league. And then came Zetterberg. Hank is a better two way player. But Datsyuk's moves are amazing, and I love that about him. I'm just glad that they are both on the Wings.

Awesome link. I like this metric-stats (am I using that right? the baseball equivalent is what I mean if I am using it incorrectly).
nice.

Fair enough. After your revision, I completely understand. I have my days as well, the complete inability to put my thoughts onto a keyboard. No Compute days, I call em.
As an aside, I think Datsyuk's defensive game is being broadly overlooked in this thread. He is NOT a one-way player.
This may be true, but I'd still lay my money on Zetterberg for every situation. Future captain after Lidstrom im guessing? Or would you think Holmstrom gets a shot? I guess you could also throw in Draper as well.
