Back when Manny Legace was the starting goalie for the Wings, I kept saying that they should have done what they did with Mike Vernon back in 1997. Even though Chris was the starter that year, they went with Vernon in the playoffs. I think they should have went with Chris Osgood over Manny Legace those years.

I'm not sure that we would have done any better with Osgood in net back then, rather than Legace. Osgood was having his share of confidence issues, and was very streaky when he was playing. I think getting out of Detroit and away from the media for awhile was good for him, and then coming back with not so high expectations again helped him to get his groove and settle down. Right now I think we're seeing the result of a great defense playing cohesively with a great passing offense, and back stopped by a very confident goaltender.
Osgood is and always will be a streaky goalie, and so is Hasek. Let's just hope that they don't both decide to have a cold streak at the same time.
