After the game tonight, I don't blame people for not wanting to go to games. Hasek is just plain pathetic right now. Absolutely ridiculous, time to get rid of him and tell him to retire.
I was going to ask that but im English and dont understand the way your confrence lay out is. But why on earth are we in the west where are the other Detroit teams situated East or West
Detroit is a popular team. When the conferences were realigned, the Wings were up-and-coming with a rabid fanbase. Detroiters tend to be lifetime fans, no matter where they move (thats why you see so many Wings jerseys in the stands on the road).
It is my opinion the league put Detroit in the West to sell the game in the West. Fine, but that time is over. Bettman has already said publicly that the Wings will be moving to the East first and very soon.
I just register on this site so i know im late in this thread but the red wings detroit fans are kidding with themself if they think Detroit is THE hockeytown.
Montreal is by far an *Hockeytown* than Detroit.
Detroit is a great hockey city and a great team that i like tho.
But here in Montreal its full house every game and we just talk about hockey , football basketball baseball we just dont care.
Hockey is first and Boxe is second with Bute/Ngoudjo/Alcine/Diaconnu/ and Eric Lucas 3 years ago.
Every bad strikes the habs have is a scandal , nothing less.
The team is getting better and we have one of the best prospects group of the league and this is getting very exciting.
I know detroit has been a very strong team for 20 years now.
For real Habs fans like me , the last 10 years here in montreal was pure torture since Patrick Roy was traded.
It was full houses every game anyway.
Montreal is HockeyTown.
And i also think my worst enemy , TORONTO , is more of an hockey town than detroit.Detroit comes in 3rd IMO.
But i still like the red wings , a great team.
Im just wondering what they'll do when Lidstrom will retire as one of the best def. of all time.
Cant replace a guy like him.
I guess you can say you cant replace a guy like Yzerman neither , but you have some nice forwards and great defs are just harder to find in the league.
Lidstrom is the key of the red wings succes the last 15 years with Yzerman.
Sure you guys had a bunch of sick players but a def. like Lidstrom is just more important than everything in the playoff.

I don't think anyone would dispute that both Montreal and Toronto have bigger fan bases than Detroit. When Detroit copy righted the term it was a marketing move and nothing more. Why people seem to take such an exception to this is a wonder to me. And Detroit will miss Lidstrom. The NHL will miss Lidstrom. You don't recover completely from losing a player like him, but we have a couple good young defencemen in Ericsson and Kindl coming up, so hopefully they can do their part to fill the void.
you guys are forgetting the new york rangers...major hockey town...this whole season was sold out in one hour when tickets were released and even before the lockout, every game was a sellout and they were terrible. the rangers were ranked second in team value by forbes. and also, on the road you see so many rangers fans in the crowd....so im just saying, they are right up there with the habs, leafs and wings

yeah sure , rangers are an original 6 after all , but i higly doubt rangers are important in new york as the habs are important in montreal.
When you read a newspaper here and a big game was played the day before , you can be SURE theres something about it on the front page.
New york = Yankees
and after i think its the giant but maybe im wrong.
Well , the Rangers are the only team that i like in NY cause i hate the islanders and i REALLY HATE New Jersey.

As much as I agree that the Rangers are a huge market, this is getting off topic. If you want to start a thread or look for a previous one on the Rangers market vs. the Habs market, feel free.
New York Metro Population = ~12 million+ and climbing
Detroit Metro = ~ 4 million and declining
New Yorkers could have only a passing interest in hockey and sell out every game. Not so in the real world where your population and economy havent been the top grossing market since......forever.
Cant compare NY to anything but LA. Beyond that, the population differences are too extreme to be even remotely fair.

But you know the drill... The pistons, Lions, and Tigers sell out, so why can't the Wings... blah blah blah
