Sorry Lions? Now I am no football fan, last I checked the Lions are actually doing good and the NFL is the top sport...nuff said there.
Tigers have just started to sell out after two great seasons. Piston do not always sell out. Plus, there tickets are cheaper.
Your right, the wings are borning, 6-2-1? Zetterburg racking up points, a couple of great young kids, two of the best old farts still at the top of their game? Typical reply I expected.
The luxury tax is new. The states unemployement rate, which is the highest in the nation, plus the poor ecomony did not start yesterday, the fall started about four, three years ago.
Well then, if you love people who have no clue then your must be head over heels for yourself.
Let's see here. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT 2007 CORRECT?
Why is it that the Tigers can sell out in 2007 and the Wings cannot?
Why is it that the Tigers, Lions and Pistons can draw big crowds but the Wings Cannot?
6-2-1 and they cannot draw crowds like they used to, WHY?. Add in the fact that "Z is racking up points, a couple of great young kids, two of the best old farts still at the top of their game?" Boy, the Wings have all this going for them and they cannot draw like they used to. (Remember the attendance figures are not the same as actual bodies at the rink--there are less bodies). Why is that? Here the Wings have all this and they cannot draw.
You really make yourself look "clueless" on this one.
They are boring--otherwise people would show up don't ya think?
BTW--Best old farts at the top of their game? Who, Chelios and Hasek--yeah they are at the top of their game--what a joke

Youre an obnoxious two-year old having a tantrum.
The Wings inability to sellout or fill the seats, in my opinion, has been for 2 reasons:
1. The lockout. Removed the Wings as the Yankees of hockey. People took a lot of pride in the fact that the Wings had no limit to their spending if it translated to winning. Vice versa, when the lockout ended and the Wings still charged pre-salary cap prices while only spending half on payroll of what they did, that disenfranchised fans to a lrge degree (especially me).
2. The economy. Michigan's economy is currently ranked 50th out of 50. Regardless of what people say, hockey is still (and always will be) the 4th major sport in this area. 1. NFL 2. MLB 3. NBA 4. NHL. 3 of those 4 teams are ultra-competitive with championship capability (i dont count the Lions as competitive, you can feel free to). Detroit is a sports fans wet dream and that detracts from a fringe league like the NHL.
This is all my opinion. If there were another, smaller reason to constitute the dropoff, I would say its the team itself. While I personally like the team, I will openly admit I am sick and tired of watching Zetterberg getting hacked and whacked by every goon with a stick full-well knowing their aint **** anyone on the Wings roster is going to do about it. But in comparison to the two reasons above, it ranks low in my mind.

If the Red Wings were so exciting they would sell out just like they did before when there was a lockout in 1994.
If the Red Wings were so exciting people would show up. Plain and simple. People don't show up because they don't want to watch them. They don't want to watch them because they are boring to watch. This isn't difficult to understand.

Was the economy bad this summer when the Tigers had 3 million people come see them? Do the Lions deal with the same economy when they sell out almost every game every season even though they have been the worst franchise in all of sports? The Red Wings are boring so nobody comes to see them. This isn't that difficult to understand.

You are correct. Put a fighter on the Wings and Z will be even better. Put a fighter on the Wings and more people will come to the games. Fighting in hockey is exciting. Puck possession games are boring.
Dallas Drake doesn't fit the role of a fighter just because he has three fights this season. I'm talking about a Downey, etc.
You speak for yourself, not everyone. Its your generalization bias that detracts from your argument. You cannot speak for the entire area, nor can I.

This just isn't brain surgery guys.
Illitch Holdings has market research groups that do find this to be a difficult nut to crack. So does every major corporation in the world. Everyone does extensive and expensive market research that tells said Corp how to change their product so that more people will buy it (so to speak).
Your easy, catch-all answer is blatant self-pandering bull$3hit because your argument obviously doesnt include that very obvious information.
Once again, the reason baseball/football/basketball draw more than the Wings (or hockey in general) is because those 3 sports are on a different planet...no, a different galaxy in terms of popularity. Not just in Michigan, nationwide. Hockey will never compete with those 3. Thats a fact.

That's quite an arguement you put up there professor. Now let's talk for a moment about what actually has happened in the real world. 1)The attendence is announced around 17,000--since those are paid ticket sales (including season tickets holders--corporations) but in reality much less are showing up. 2)These marketing genuises you speak of lowered ticket prices to as low as $9. YES--NINE FRICKEN DOLLARS--and they still cannot get 2/3 of the seats filled for games.
How bout this "catch-all answer is blatant self-pandering bull$3hit"
3)These marketing genuises you speak of must know two things that bring people out of their seats and yell and scream and clap--one is goals--which the Red Wings have no problem with and the other is--you guessed it--FIGHTS which the Red Wings have not done for years.
How about the fact that TV ratings have went into the toilet?
Or this bull$hit; How bout this one; The Red Wings have sold out for years and years--there was a waiting list for season tickets. How bout Detroit being "Hockeytown" and you're going to tell us that hockey in Detroit is a #4 sport? An original six team with steep tradition and recent Cup success? A team who had a player painted on a building overlooking Woodward in a #4 sport. Please--that is some bull$hit right there professor.
The Red Wings do not take a back seat to any team in Detroit. What's wrong with you?
Fans do not show up because they are boring to watch. Bull$hit---I don't think so. $9
The Red Wings are a #4 sport in Detroit--thanks for the laugh of the day professor.

Easily #4. #3 being the NBA which is light years more popular. Sorry to tell you that.

Thanks for proving your undying ignorance, student. Once again, just because YOU like something more than others, doesnt mean EVERYONE else does. It'll take time for you to understand that, but you'll get it sooner or later.

Ratings trends indicate the Pistons have surpassed the Wings. Up until the lockout season in 2004-05, the Wings traditionally outdrew the Pistons on FSN Detroit. The disparity was often large, as many as four ratings points in favor of the Wings.
Now, the Pistons are averaging 6.0 for the regular season, while the Wings are at 4.7.
Im sure its because they dont fight enough because you said so. Couldnt have been the lockout...no, no, no....because you said so.
