Default Wings' Franzen out 3 to 4 weeks

Red Wings' forward Johan Franzen left Saturday's game with an apparent knee injury and now it appears he will be out long-term.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Franzen suffered a Grade 2 sprain of his right medial collateral ligament and is expected to be out of the Red Wings' lineup for 3-4 weeks.

This sucks. Hopefully it is a quick heal and he gets back on the ice.

I hope so. They have Ellis and Downey on the roster to fill another lines spot for whoever is moving up. I think Filppula will be moved up, since he has played with Datsyuk before and had some pretty good results. What are your takes?

This is bad news for the Wings, because they have very shallow depth up front. I'm going to assume that the Wings will move Filppula up, put Draper as the center of the second line, and probably put Downey or one of the young guys on the wing for the 3rd line. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.

Red Wings centre Johan Franzen was understandably upset about suffering a 2nd-degree MCL sprain on Saturday vs. Chicago.

"It's not the way I wanted to start the season, I can tell you that," Franzen said Monday. "But I'd rather take it now than at the end of the season."

Franzen was wearing a brace around his knee Monday and was doing some light work in the weight room.

Valtteri Filppula earned his promotion to Datsyuk's line as he played with Datsyuk and Holmstrom both in the playoffs and during the regular season, when Zetterberg missed time with a herniated disc in his back.

Filppula moves up on a line with Datsyuk. How does everyone feel about this? He was on a line with Datsyuk last year when Hank was out with his back injury. He played pretty good with Datsyuk, in my opinion. Ellis will center the 4th line. And, Draper will center a line with Cleary and Drake. I like the line set up with Drake, Cleary and Draper.

I like Filppula being on a line with Datsyuk and Holmstrom, because I think he has earned it just as much as Franzen had. I'm personally not fond of Drake going to the 3rd line though, because I really don't think he deserves too. I'd rather have Maltby move up.

What does the attendance have to do with Franzen's injury? If you want to discuss the wings poor attendance, make a thread. For now, let's keep this one on topic.

Allow me to explain to you;

Besides goals and penalty shots what is the thing that brings butts out of seats, that creates excitement? It's fights.

Ellis or Downey go in when Franzen goes down.

Ellis plays his invisible 5 minutes and no additional fans.

Downey plays his high tempo, fighting style 5 minutes and additional fans show up.

See how attendance relates to Franzens injury now?

Wait, I thought Drake fought in both of the first games? Did that bring extra people to the stands? Nope.
