Lapierre hit Lidstrom clean. Completely clean, and everyone is going ape over it because Lidstrom was groggy
I've got nothing against the hit itself I'm just saying good job on Downie's part to send a message that taking liberties, both legal and illegal, against the captain won't be tolerated.

I disagree. Who is going ape****, btw?

Clean or not, he asnwers for that (i think it was a clean hit). Not by cheapshotting him or what not, he was goated into a fight and (props to Lap) he manned up.
Im not into the goonery after hits, where guys are jumped. I prefer the old fashion way.
Offender (Lap) gets busted in his mouth by Enforcer (Downey), which is a clear challenge for a fight. Both players drop their gloves and settle it, man to man.
After that, its done. What more can you do? Cheapshot him? That doesnt change anything.

People aren't going ape**** that Lidstrom was groggy, Wings fans are worried because Lidstrom is injured. Thats Rafalski, Lidstrom, and Krownall all injured. Sorry if thats a big deal to us.
1). Laperierre took a real run at Lids and tried to knock him through the glass. It wasn't dirty. But it wasn't sportsmanlike either.
2). Avs fans are classless. If you listen to the in-game audio, you can hear the very loud cheering when they realized Lidstrom wasn't getting up. What's with that? Detroit might cheer if Lap or Parker or someone got beat up in a fight. But no way would Motown cheer Sakic breaking a leg....
It didn't look to be a dirty hit, it sucks that Lidstrom had to leave the game. But, Downey took care of business. Also said after the game that if anybody is going to take runs at our players, I am going to send a message to the player that did so. I'm glad Downey is on our team also.

I miss him in Montreal :( He's just a great fan favorite and even player favorite. He understands that he's not gonna play every games but plays a great part in the locker room (he brings sacks of p'tatoes to the players on Xmas lol). But I'm glad he found a team to appreciate him in the wings, I'm sure after dumping Laperriere not once but twice (hehe was funny to see Laperriere cover up like a turtle after getting the taste slapped out of him and trying to take a run at Downie for it only to fall on his arse) he will become a fan favorite with the wings for a while.
This has been a depressing stretch of games. I hope Holland makes a good trade at the deadline to make things a little happier.
It has. Ken Daniels was talking to him before the Vancouver game I want to say, and he said that everyone has the rumor of Hossa coming to Detroit because Holland and Waddel are good friends. He said only if the deal makes sense of course.
Stuart played great in his first game and Kronwall notched 2 assists in his first game back and we still lost.... :( (on the biggest joke of a non-call, the puck clearly hit the netting)
Anyone expected back tomorrow for the defense?
Stuart did have a good a debut, and that was a joke of a non-call. Why such a thing is unreviewable is beyond me. They'll review a puck going in illegally under the goal or through the netting, but they can' review whether or not a puck went out of play? Usually, hockey review is the best in sports but that was dispicable.
Wings won to open March with a winning record in Buffalo. Good game all around, but the 2nd Buffalo goal was strange. Another should-have-been-stopped type play. But I guess the Sabres were robbed by Lilja so it all comes around.
Kronwall and Stuart have done a ton to "restabilize" the defense.
Injury Update:
Kronwall - Clavicle: Playing again now.
Hasek - Hip: Playing again now.
Rafalski - Groin: Practicing, hopes to play Wed.
Lidstrom - Knee: Lifting, still 10 days or more out.
Chelios - Fibula: Suana and Stationary Bike, Day-to-Day.
Cleary - Face: Practicing, hopes to play last 3 games (Apr)
