Wow, there are a lot of valid points her, and this is something that I've been pondering for a bit. I question Dom's stamina. In the playoffs, you could see him struggling to get up after he had covered the puck, or the play went the other way. I know that when I get tired, I get a little sloppy, and I think it has happened with Hasek on occasion too. If he is still wanting to play, keep him, but don't over use him. Get a good mix of what you got. Play Osgood a little more, and call up Howard more, put him in some games.
I saw a few Griffins games this past season, and Howard was in net. He's good, but he's jumpy. The other guy was way more calm while making the saves. Now maybe thats his style, I haven't seen hmi enoguh to know for sure. He could use it to keep himself ready all the time, but I'm not sure that would transfer over well to the NHL at this point, but you've got to at least pull him up ther and see. If he's not going to be ready as soon as they hope, then we need to start looking for a guy that can play the position for a little while. It seems every starting goaltender we've picked up since 2000, has been over 35 (not completely positive on that). Lets try to look for someone in there mid 20s, that has a bit of NHL experience, and that can hang around for a while.
I was really hoping that we would get someone new in here for the '07-'08 season, an established younger guy like Giguerre or Toskala, but thats all right, we've got to work with what we've got. However, there's something to say for pulling up that young guy who nobody knows, and having them steal the spotlight (Giguerre did it, so did Cam Ward). I'll guess we'll just wait and see what happens this season, hopefully no big injuries though, in general, not just with the goaltenders.
Well I kdont think this is in the best interest of the Red wings winning the cup, but for the red wings as a franchise I think they should dump hasek and look for someone to share the start with howard. Maybe Osgood, maybe someone more promising like Garon, or you could bring in Abeister. Although they wont be as dependable as Hasek, Howard will then have the chance to grow into the starting postion and if he doesnt do it soon, he may idol to long a\nd never grow into a starter. He shows promise as a good number 1 guy, but he is going to need that opertunity and so most likely.
Theres only one problem with this: Howard isn't ready yet. If Howard was ready to even split with Osgood, I'd say go for it. However, he isn't, so having Hasek back for one year is probably the best option. That way we don't commit salary longterm, and Howard can come up the next year if he's ready.
Honestly, It won't make a difference with Hasek in net or not. For as long as Lidstrom, and Detroits defense is still there, any goalie will look good in net.
I'll give my props to him however. If Hasek mekes it into the post-season, he completly turns around his game. However I'm still saying that Detroit should persue a new goalie. Perhaps Backstrom? (If Colorado Doesn't Pick Him Up First)

Backstrom? Unavailable, Wild have him signed for 3 years I think, and considering they just traded Fernandez, I don't think they're moving him anywhere. Hasek is the best option they have, I'm not sure there is any question about that any more, outside for people who really underestimate what he did last year.
A lot of people really dislike Hasek, but he had one of the lowest GAA's all season, and drove the team to the Western Confrence finals. Dispite not winning it all, it was a good season. If it isn't broke, DONT FIX IT! The'll be fine with Dom, Rafalski, Hank and Pavel.
