i think the whole entrie city is more upset about yzerman's injury then the wings loss. there is a lot of media coverage and these are the updates that i have found.

The update won't be made until after the Wings practice at the Joe tomorrow. He went to the hospital for x-rays and WDIV says he also had a CAT scan
local radio station 1270 and they would probably be the best source.

After he was down for more than two minutes, Yzerman was helped to the locker room with a towel over his face, then to a hospital. No specifics of the injury were announced, but it was severe enough to keep Yzerman out of the third period and put doubt upon his availability for Game 6 in Calgary on Monday night.
"Probably a broken cheekbone," said Detroit's Mathieu Dandenault, who plays both defense and forward.
New York Times
Dandenault was right next to Stevie when the trainer came out and helped him off the ice so he would know.

according to the news, that is eye is okay, which is good news. He either has a broken cheek bone or fractured lower orbital, but they will know for sure tomorrow.
You could practilly feel the JLA go silent when he hit the ice. It means a lot to this city, as well as to the whole state and to all Red Wings fans everywhere, when their captain goes down. For some of us, he's the only captain we have ever known in Motown, and we've been through a lot together. I would hate to see his career end on some terrible eye injury, especially when you picure him retiring, holding the Cup above his head, as many expected he would this year.
Next game, we need someone to step up. The first person that comes to mind is Shanahan. If anyone has enough heart to lead this team while Stevie is gone, he does. The Wings are full of leaders and ex-captians: Derrian Hatcher-former Dallas Stars captain, Chris Chelios-former Chicago Blakchawks captain, Brett Hull-former captain of St. Louis (I believe), Brendan Shanahan-former Hartofrd Whalers captain, Steve Thomas-helped lead the Ducks to the finals last season, and these are just some of the more notables. Also, Curtis Joseph has done everything the Wings could have asked of him. It's time for Detroit's players to give themselves a chance tow in, instead of making Cujo give them a chance to win. They have to play better defense. They are playing uninspired, and with Yzerman out, he can't help their cause.
Here's a bit of what they call on the t.v. "Stanley Cup Summary," you know, things like, "the team that wins game five wins most of the series," and stuff liek that. Only this one is in favor of the Wings.
The last time Detorit was shut-out in the playoffs at home was against St. Louis in 1997-a series which they obviously won, as they went on to wint the Cup that year. Also, Detroit was down 3 games to 2 against rival Colorado in game 6 of the Western Conference Finals in 2002. They had to go to the hostile Pepsi Center in Denver, and needed a win to stay alive. Early on in the game, Steve yzerman skated in on then Avs goalie Patrick Roy, and Roy made a great save, and though the puck was in his glove. But in actuality, it was underneath his glove, and he slid it inot his won net, giving the Wings a 1-0 lead in the game. Later, Darren McCarty would score another tally for the Wings, who went on to win it 2-0. The rest was history, as the Avs came to Detroit in Game 7, and were shut-out for the second strait game by Dominik Hasek, in a game in whcihc the Wings tore the Avalanche apart, crushing them 7-0, and scoring on their first 2 shots. So, if that at the very least doens't make you feel a litttle bit better, at least reading about the Avalcnhe's devestating loss to the Wings can make you feel pretty good.
Hey, sweet, another Wings fan! The more the merrier! Welcome to the site! Recently, us Wings fans have been coping with our teams second round play, and many of us haven't found the courage to post much yet. Thought I'd tell ya since there haven't been many posts in the Red WIngs forum as of late. I think Wings fans deal with losses differently than some fans--we kind of sit, there stunned. You should have read the story I wrote about Red Wings fans and how they cope after there Game 1 OT loss: http://www.thehockeybuzz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=86
But this is off topic, sorry. Anyway, I haven't heard anything new about Stevie's condition. I hope he is all right.
haha!! you are right. whenever they lose, i do just stare at the screen and think that just didn't happen. or like yesterday, i started hitting things at work, but we wont go there . btw, good story!

Where there is no vision a people perish
Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman underwent four-and-one-half hours of surgery on Saturday night at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Yzerman was struck in the face by a puck during the second period of Detroit's game against the Calgary Flames.
A shot by Red Wings defenceman Mathieu Schneider ricocheted off a player in front of the Calgary net and hit Yzerman squarely in the face as he stood to the left of the net. The injury forced him out for the remainder of the second-round playoff game, which Detroit lost 1-0.
Due to the injury, Yzerman experienced blurred vision in his left eye, which improved following the surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Yzerman will be out of the Red Wings lineup indefinitely.
Heard it on the radio this morning, not great news at all. Let's hope that the guys use this as some motivation and channel the emotion of losing our captain in Calgary on Monday. This looks like an injury that is quite serious but knowing Stevie Y, he'll try to find a way to comeback.
