I subscribe to the hockey news and the thing that they didn't tell you on the website is who voted.

Ontario 16%
Alberta 5.7%
B.C. 5.1%
Rest of Canada 8.1%
New York 7.8%
Michigan 7.2%
New Jersey 5.1%
Rest of U.S. 43.5%
Rest of world 1.2%

Having most of the votes comming from the U.S. may have something to do with the results. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure detroit would have still done well, but if more were from Canada you can bet Canadian teams like Toronto and Vancouver would have done a lot better than they did.
