DETROIT -- Add Robert Lang to the list of injured Red Wings.
Head coach Dave Lewis confirmed reports today that the newly acquired center will be out of the lineup with a fractured rib.
"He'll be (out) 3-4 weeks," said Lewis.
Lang suffered the injury after he was checked into the boards during the first period of Monday night's 1-1 tie against Tampa Bay.
"It was a normal bodycheck," said Lang. "I hit the seam (in the boards) and cracked a rib."
According to Lewis, the loss of Lang will give forwards Jason Williams and Boyd Devereaux more ice.
"They're going to be excited, they're going to play and we're going to need them," said Lewis. "We're going to need their energy. And anytime you need somebody, that's a good thing. The player wants to feel that way and sometimes when you don't play, you don't feel needed."
Given the timeframe of Lang's recovery, he expects to be back in time for the Red Wings first playoff series.
"I can't predict anything, but I'm hoping that before playoffs, everything will be fine," said Lang.
Lang, who was acquired by the Red Wings on Feb. 27 from Washington in exchange for prospect Tomas Fleischman and two draft picks, was tied for second in the NHL scoring race with 78 points. He joins forwards Kris Draper (shoulder) and Pavel Datsyuk (ankle), along with defenseman Mathieu Dandenault (broken foot) and Nicklas Kronwall (broken leg), on the Red Wings' injured list.

this is not good news for the wings. with their two top leading scorers out of the lineup for another two weeks not too mention losing drapes who was critical on the pk and on the power play and dandenault vital to the team with the absence of defensemen jason woolley. with the trade deadline apporaching holland doesnt have much time to fix the gaps in his lineup. even though the wings overcame injuries earlier in the season the playoffs are just around the corner. talk about being beware of the ides of march...
