he isnt even twenty so he has got time to grow but he is a solid speed skater with good puck handling skills. his team in the czech republic was a power house and he was a huge asset to the team. he just needs to improve physically and get away from that european hockey
Only problem with Hudler and a potential NHL career, similar to most of the Wings young players and prospects, is size, he's just 5'9" and 175 lbs.
you can look at this problem half full or half empty. when the average guy in the leauge is 6'1 he has a huge advantage over someone small like hudler but youve got guys like avery savard, and domi all who are 5'10 and under but manage to play physically whether you like their style of play, these guys are all strong forecheckers and draw penalties to help out their team. and i dont think the wings have to worry about height when youve got talent like datysuk and zetterberg. holland isnt planing on geting rid of ficher any time soon and he stands 6'5
Sorry but I don't see what advantage being small has.
My point was that Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Hudler, Williams, Grigorenko, Fleischman, Filpulla, Robinson, etc are all rather diminutive future forwards for the Wings, and I don't think any of them are very physical, certainly not in the vain of dumi or assvery. Lots of talent/skill, but that's a lot of small players on one potential future team. Going to definitely need some size up front mixed in there is all.
i am not saying being small is an advantage but you cant look at every situation as the glass being half empty. there are alot of guys who are small yet manage to play physically despite their size. datsyuk is underestimated about his strength. look at the hit he put on grosek in the game agansit boston. he was kicked out of the game for the hit from behind and i dont think you had to be sitting on the other side of the glass to realize that it was a hard hit. grosek is over 6'2 and daty is just 5'11.
Well you don't have to be big to hit someone from behind.
Like I said, the Wings forwards will be way too small if even most of these prospects end up on the team. You have to have some size, and I don't think any of them are very physical either.

True, once guys like Holmstrom and Shanny are gone the Wings will need some size but all those guys look to be highly skilled. I'm sure Holland will make some moves. You can always deal some skill for size. That's a lot easier than the other way around.

a team has to have size on their team to be competative. but many players are underestimated because of their size but despite the fact they are smaller then most guys they are strong assets to their teams physically. datysuk is a prime example. he is the future of the wings but is small. he has immense strength and that hit on grosek was a prime example.
