Default Red Wings recall Joseph

TSN.ca Staff

12/9/2003

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Curtis Joseph, as well as Grand Rapids Griffins netminder Joey MacDonald, to replace Dominik Hasek and Manny Legace.

Hasek is suffering with a re-aggravated groin injury, while Legace sprained a knee during the pre-game warm-up before Monday's game against the Los Angeles Kings. Legace is day-to-day.

Joseph will get the start in goal on Thursday night when the Red Wings face the Buffalo Sabres. The Wings will be without 10 of their regulars in the lineup.

Steve Yzerman (groin), Henrik Zetterberg (leg fracture), wingers Tomas Holmstrom (shoulder) and Ray Whitney (groin), defenceman Chris Chelios (sprained knee), Darren McCarty (back), Derian Hatcher (torn ACL) and Steve Thomas (knee) have all been placed on injury reserve.

Joseph reported to Grand Rapids after clearing waivers on Friday.

 They release him, and they get him back, its all too funny !!!

It's not too funny if your a Wings fan. I think Detroit will be making a mistake if they trade Cujo. They should be trading Hasek. This guy has had all kinds of problems with his groin since his Buffalo days. It's one thing to be 38 and playing and staying in shape, it's another to take a year off and try to come back. Hasek hasn't played that well since he's been back. Cujo hasn't played that well, but then again if he were to play 5 or 6 games in a row, I think he would find his form and show that he is the better goalie. Then if Detroit still wants to trade it might make it easier to do.

Cujo's 5-2-1 in his last 8 games and is playing well. I still say Detroit should keep him and trade Hasek.

thats why they arent playing the cujo card until haseks return (which is expected to be on sunday) however even if they need to trade cujo to stack up their defense and the way he has been playing he would be a great asset to any team. even if you disagree that the wings shouldnt trade cujo having hasek and legace as your last line of defense isnt too shabby

This guy has had all kinds of problems with his groin since his Buffalo days.

Didn't stop him from winning a cup, setting a record for most shutouts in a playoff year in the process.

How people can keep questioning Hasek who has accomplished more as a goaltender than probably anybody in the history of the game, is a mystery.

Meanwhile the career choker muttjo continues to be glorified the minute he makes a few saves.

Check the numbers. Hasek is 8-3-2 this season with a 2.20 GAA and a .907 SV%, pretty good for a guy who's been battling injury all season.

Holland does not trust Haseks groin. SN is reporting that Holland said he is not in a hurry to trade Cujo Now, that he is playing well and they have already paid half his salary. He doesn't know what to think of Hasek and his constant groin problems. He says they may carry 3 goalies until the end of the season or a least until the trade deadline to see what happens.

careerchokerjo looked bad on all 3 goals tonight.

SN is hardly reliable, I hope this talk that's being attributed to Holland is mere conjecture, or him trying to get jojo's trade value up. I think Holland's learned his lesson on this one.

the wings were off in general the three goals were both losey and cheap shots that cujo should have stoped. it was just a bad game and though i would like to see cujo traded i can mock him as a bad goalie (overrated yes not talented no) in the past 9 games he has gone 6-2-1
