TORONTO (CP) - Brett Hull of the Detroit Red Wings scored his 15th goal of the season and 731st of his career Saturday night, tying Marcel Dionne for third place all-time.
Hull skated across the front of the Toronto crease with the puck, waited until goalie Ed Belfour went down, and lifted in a backhander for the milestone goal late in the first period to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead over the Maple Leafs.
Dionne had held third spot since retiring in 1989.
Wayne Gretzky's 894 goals are the NHL record, and Gordie Howe is next with 801.
if he keeps up his good play as of late and plays 2-3 more seasons i can see him passing Howe. But I don't see him playing 2-3 more seasons. He is getting old eh?
If he hangs around like Messier, he will. But he should just retire this or next year. Getting way too old, that Detroit roster. Whats their average age, 33??
Who knows what Hasek, Yzerman, Thomas and Chelios are gonna do after this year.
hull will most likely not renew his contract because his dad is starting up the world hockey leguge (whale) even though it may not be very sucessful and will last tops 2 seasons he still has got to support his dad. i just hope the league will not sign 12 teams to start up come next season
I'm watching the Blues/RedWings game tonight on TSN. One announcer described an incident in practice today where Brett Hull whistled a shot past the head of the rookie goalie (Marc Lamothe I think?) and into the net. The goalie actually flinched. Hull called out to him "Ah don't worry kid, I know what I'm doing."
