Hopefully this ends Hatcher's career, forcing him to join the old family business... "Hatcher Sewage and Plumbing"

Okay, for a big guy, he's not very tough is he... or bright for that matter.

Got the following from TSN's website,
Quote:
Wings' Hatcher suffers sprained knee

Associated Press

10/16/2003

DETROIT - Red Wings defenceman Derian Hatcher left Detroit's game against Vancouver on Thursday night because of a sprained knee.

Hatcher was hurt when he got tangled up with Vancouver's Markus Naslund and Bryan Allen early in the first period. He was not expected to return.

Hatcher signed a five-year, $30 million US contract with Detroit in July after playing the first 12 seasons of his career with the Dallas Stars organization.

He was runner-up for the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenceman last season.
Considering the Red Wings have quality defensemen coming out the wazoo, I don't think Hatcher will be missed. Besides, do the Red Wings really need two goons on defense; Chelios is already a clutching grabbing defenseman, do the Red Wings need "The Hatchet" out there as well?

I have to disagree with you about them not missing Hatcher. Taking out a 6-5, 235 pound Norris like defensemen will be felt, I don't care how stacked your defense is.

News flash - Iced Tea has lost his ability to be funny. We now go live to the press conference in Iced Tea's living room.

(Iced Tea clears throat) Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming. Sometime this past summer, I lost my ability to be funny. I'm not sure when. It might have been during the potty jokes marathon at work, it could have been when I was slapped upside the head for telling a woman that it wasn't the dress that made her fat, or it might have been when the cop asked me if I knew how fast I was going and I said as fast as him. I am now in mourning because as we all know humour was the only thing I had going for me. Any questions?

Iced Tea, what will you do now that you aren't funny anymore?

Good question. I will try to develop other qualities, Maybe become sensitive or caring. Or I could go the other way and become a badass. I'm thinking badass because that's what the ladies like.

Do you ever think you will make people laugh again?

The only way I see that happening is accidental physical comedy. Like when I rode my bike into the parked car or walked into the lamp post because I was too busy looking at a beautiful woman.

Now that you are no longer funny, what kind of a poster will you be?

I believe I will become a brainless idiot who posts as often as possible and averages 2 lines per post while repeating the exact same thing previous posters said and not adding anything new to the conversation. That way I can be the poster known as the first one to hit 1000 posts.

Iced Tea, what is your opinion on Anna Kournikova retiring?

It will be a great loss to the tennis world. Hey, how come no one is laughing? See, I have totally lost it. Anna wants to become an actress and I would be happy to give her a few pointers if she cares to drop by Iced Tea's swinging bachelor pad. Ok, last question.

Iced Tea, what are your current plans?

I intend to bandage the knee of my Derian Hatcher voodoo doll, thank the dark lord for granting my wish, and ask him if he can do the impossible and find me a girlfriend.

Thank you for coming, please put your iced tea cans in the recycle bin, and for any ladies who want to stick around, I'm willing to try to be a sensitive and caring badass.

My original post was meant to be sarcasm.

I'm just not wording things sarcastically enough lately. It could be the old iced tea I've been drinking lately. I will try again.

(Start sarcasm)
Oh, the Red Wings are screwed. Hatcher has a sprained knee, the Red Wings may as well concede the rest of the season and try to rebuild for next year. I knew it was wrong to pin their hopes on one guy. Hatcher is more important that Yzerman, Hull, Zetterberg, and Datsyuk combined.
(End sarcasm)

Seeing as how I just looked at Sportsnet and saw that Hatcher is gone for 4 - 6 months, the Red Wings defense does get weaker. While I don't like the way Hatcher plays defense, he is strong physical presence, which Detroit has lacked in the last few years, and has a high +/- rating. I just don't like the fact that he is a goon.

But don't feel sorry for the Red Wings; the management will take the appropriate steps to fill the void. They still have Cujo, maybe they can convince some rookie GM to trade a good defenseman for Joseive. Better yet, put Cujo back in goal and put Hasek on defense. We all know what a goon Hasek can be when pissed off (Hint: think roller hockey and hospital stay for the other guy).
