Default Out w/the old and in w/ the new

With Larionov leaving it makes room for some young talent to step up. Larionov was not worth 2 Mill a season bottom line.

Who will step up? Zetterburg and Datsyuk are already on the second line, and with the wings top prospect, (Was it grigorenko?) injured, the Wing's forward positions are thinner than they have been in years. No Federov, Larionov, or Robitaille means the Wings no longer have 4 lines they can depend on. I think they should trade Joseph for a forward and make Legace the backp

Rambler, I think that's what they are working on. trading Cujo for a center but in the mean time the Wings have plenty of depth. Zetterberg is going back to center to make 4 lines again. The Wings have alot of options, they will be ok.

i think detroits checking line is over looked. draper and his mates are hard gritty players. besides, having the defense and goaltending that they have, i think it takes away some of the pressure off the forwards.

True the Grind line is awesome and I think they are not over looked anymore. They have gelled and become a fine wine line. But they may have to break it up from time to time this season so Malts and Drapes can pair up with some other line combos.

The stroy of the Octapus:

Detroit, many years back when teams only needed to win 8 games to win the Stanley Cup, a fan ( I cannot rember his name now,) through an octapus onto the ice after the Wings had won 3 strait games, because the octapus has 8 legs, and you needed to win, 8 games. The WIngs went on to beat whoever they were playing, and won 8 strait games, and so the tradition stuck.

Recently however, several years back, fans at a Florida Panthers game decided to be clever, and throw rats (you know panthers are cats, and cats eat rats), rubber rats that it, onto the ice. They had so many on the ice, they had to get shovels to remove and garbage cans to remove them all. After that, the NHL made a rule, that the hoome team would get a penalty if the crowd throw debris on the ice, so now, very few octapi are thrown at wings games. :

The rat thing was to do with an incident that happened in the Panther dressing room before a game late in the regular season. Scott Mellanby killed a Rat before a game with his stick then went out and scored 2 goals using that stick. They coined it a "Rat trick" and some marketing genius thought it would be a good idea to hand out plastic rats to the crowd.

Here's the story for those that are interested.
